It makes no difference, and has previously been reported in several threads, one of which showed some intent of passing on the bug information to team:

Server Version#: 1.20.4.3517 Player Version#: 4.43.4, 4.46.2 With the latest Plex-web version, podcasts no longer show their played status when viewing the list of episodes, making it hard to find which one you left off on. It used to show an orange dot next to unplayed ones, but now doesnt. When selecting an episode it still shows the watch status in that screen.
