HW transcoding has always been unreliable (didn’t always work but would switch to software) under Windows with Quicksync (QSV) but the quality was always decent when it did work. It mostly didn’t work when it was 1080p to 1080p transcoding but it would fallback to software
Lately in the last few months, I can’t remember which build but I think it started with zero copy announcement, HW transcoding started working reliably on all qualities but the quality went downhill, severely— anything below 8Mbps/1080p quality setting would produce severe blockiness that is unwatchable. Disabling HW transcoding and using the same quality setting fixes the issue.
I’m using a intel i7 NUC with babycanyon (previously said it was kabylake, sorry that was another computer) processor which is new enough that should have decent transcoding quality, at least from what I’ve read online. Plexpass. Turning on or off experimental player makes no difference
Any insights? I’m not sure what to do but I really need HW transcoding as the server is multipurposed.
