Since I updated to the latest version of plex, anything I’ve watched with burned subtitles (results with unburned subs have always been super-inconsistent as to whether the subs even show up) has super low quality (not in 100% of the file, just in parts scattered throughout.) When I turn off subtitles and therefore switch to direct streaming, the video goes back to normal. I went into the settings and disabled HW transcoding, which I’ve been using for years with no issue, (despite ominous warnings of degraded quality,) and the issue cleared up straight away. More specifically, I’ve watched some of the exact files in question before under the exact same settings without issue, but this latest update seems to have changed something to do with the way hw transcoding is being handled. There were also instances where playback of a file which has never given me trouble before would cut out and resume repeatedly, though I’m unsure if this is related as I didn’t test disabling subs until after that episode had finally sputtered to its end.
To be more specific for anyone browsing the logs, the files where I’ve noticed the hw transcoding quality issues so far were One Piece S21E14 and S21E15, and Letterkenny S06E03 and S06E04, with the playback issue occuring only in Letterkenny S06E03 and S06E04, so far.
Hello. I went to check your logs for anything obvious, but they are in Verbose mode, which makes it too difficult because very little get captured before the logs fill up.
If you’re running an integrated intel graphics card that may be the culprit. I was having this problem too on my setup. Supposedly the latest beta is supposed to fix one of the two bugs around transcoding.
