Possible Bug: Agent always pulls file metadata for MP4

When Plex reads metadata it pulls in the metadata from the file first. I know you can change the agent order and I have done that. I may have stumbled across a bug though. I have the personal database as the lowest level and also deselected as I don’t care what the file metadata is. If the file is MP4 it will only pull the file metadata but if the file is MKV for instance it will ignore the file metadata.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Which agent are you using for that libary?

We only ever read from mp4/m4v , we have never supported mkv embedded metdadata

If your library already uses the new “Plex Movie” or “Plex TV Shows” agent, do this instead:
Edit your library
go to the ‘Advanced’ tab
clear the check mark out of “Prefer local metadata”

Afterwards, Refresh Metadata of the affected items.

That fixed it. I find it strange that local metadata is in two places (pictures attached). Wouldn’t having the library “Prefer Local Metadata” defaulted as off make more sense as I feel the population of users wanting this would be fairly low vs using Plex’s metadata gather feature.

Or am I wrong in that understanding.

The first is the old, deprecated way of fetching metadata,
the second is the new method.

Apparently you are already using the new one, so you can ignore the whole menu item “Agents” in the server settings. They will go away at some point in the future.
