Where do I specify to "use my metadata"?

I’m sure it was in:

Manage Library > Edit > Advanced

But I can no longer see an option to instruct Plex to prefer my metadata in that location. Has it been moved?

I’ve just deleted & re-imported my library, in the hope that some of the bugs would clear out. They haven’t. So now I’m stuck with just trying to get it into some kind of shape. Unfortunately, some options appear to be missing.

Which type of library?
Which Agent has been selected on the Advanced tab?

The agent “Plex Personal Media” is one of the Legacy agents.
As such,

• it will be removed from the code in the not-so-long term.
• it is controlled by the Settings section called Agents - Albums - Personal Media Albums
  In this section, make sure to fill the checkbox of the line “Local Media Assets”. Then drag it into the top position.

It is generally recommended to use the Agent named “Plex Music”.
After selecting this one, the configuration of the agent will again be transferred to the Advanced tab of the library properties. Which will also make the checkbox “Prefer local meta tags” available.

Just a correction here.

“Personal Media Artists” is the legacy agent. “Plex Personal Media” is the modern variant of this if you only want to use local metadata only. “Plex Music” agent will always attempt to also use cloud metadata where needed.

Wow. Maybe it’s because I’m new to it, but it seems like a dog’s dinner to me.

Why are there so many options in so many different places? (I’m sure there’s a reason, it’s just not clear to me.)

Also, it has not changed anything, Plex is still not using only my metadata. My carefully tuned tags have been turned into garbage & tons of stuff is not where it should be.

Also, despite having switched it off, bios & bumph is still there.

Just to summarise…

In “settings” I don’t have an option called “Agents” only “Agents (Legacy)”

In there I have checked:

Local Media Assets (Movies)
Local Media Assets (TV)
Local Media Assets (Artists)
Local Media Assets (Albums)

And have moved each one to the top.

In the Advanced part of the Edit Library pane I have:

Scanner: Plex Media
Agent: Plex Media
Prefer Local Metadata is checked.
Artist Bios & Album Reviews & Critic Ratings are unchecked.

Having saved these changes & let Plex complete it’s thing, artist bumph is still there & the tags are still all over the shop.

Does it basically just not work or is there something else I should be doing?

Note: If I change the Agent in the Advanced pane to Plex Personal Media, the options to Prefer Local Metadata & switch of the Bios etc. disappear.
