Possible to block specific devices

Is it possible to block certain devices (not users, but one of their devices) from accessing Plex, And is it possible to specify that only Plex clients can connect to Plex. I don’t want people to be able to play stuff oiff the Plex Web client (since the Plex interface only shows them as “Plex Web Safari”

And if they used Chrome, Firefox or Opera it would show that as well.

What’s wrong with someone using a web browser to access your Plex Server?
Are you trying to “authorize” that person to only access your system via a Roku in their Living room type thing?

I have a few friends who repeatedly gives out their username and password it seems. The are streaming from 3-4 ip’s at a time. In stead of blocking them, Id just like to specify the client they can use - alternatively a max number of streams per user

Settings/Server/Network/Remote streams allowed per user
Change it from Unlimited to 1

Your users will quickly learn that if they give out their account info that they are cutting themselves off from using your server when someone else is streaming.

Alternately or in combination you can probably block IPs in your router and if not you can surely add a route add command to your local IP routing table on the Plex server to block addresses. The best solution is to just cut off your friend until he/she calls you. Then explain that you were doing him a favor by giving him access to your system. Tell him you noticed multiple streams coming from him from different places which isn’t normal and that he’s abusing your system by doing this.

Then explain that you will only allow 1 stream at a time from him/her and that he needs to change his/her plex.tv password before you give him/her access again and that he/she promises not to give this info to anyone else.

If he/she does it again then you can either cut him/her off completely or know that only 1 stream is available at a time.

PS The best solution is to have “the talk” with your friend and set them straight on abusing your server and resources.

I agree that “having the talk” is the best idea but since they have the option for number of simultaneous streams, I wish the option was on the User config screen. I can say what libraries and ratings and such by user, this would be a nice config by user also. $0.02

Well on the SERVER you can specify the total number of streams every user is allowed to have. It’s a one size fits all setting. You can’t allow your DAD unlimited while restricting your neighbor to 1 total stream.

It’s better than nothing however. Maybe setting this to 2 would curb the large abuse while still giving a bit of flexibility.

Thanks for your suggestions. I guess I need the conversation… I’ll try setting it to 1 anyway for the time being. Do you know if they get a detailed error, or the media just wont play? At least the setting is not for local network accounts, meaning it wont bother the kids.
