I would like to see the option of having a "collection" of pre-rolls which Plex would select from randomly. I, for instance, have a directory full of classic "feature presentation" type videos and would love to have one selected every time I start a movie rather than changing it myself when I get bored of seeing the same one.
Bonus Points: Instead of random, it could be based on criteria such as year/genre. You could have a pre-roll for Sci-Fi movies or an "80's" Pre-roll.

I'd actually like to see this PreRoll Collection be able to be populated from latest unwatched videos post to certain news blogs (thinking IGN Daily Fix or Minute Physics here)... But only for TV shows, to get that free to air feel without the crap associated with free to air... Would be pretty cool to see you favourite couple minute news segments seeking in in front of or maybe between tv shows :)

Interesting. I actually kind of like this concept for movies. Sort of like how theaters used to show newsreels before the film back in the day. However, due to the inherent limitations (see:uselessness) of plex "channels", I think plex would need to have podcast support to make this a viable possibility. Not sure how enjoyable I'd find PreRoll of this nature in front of movies, as I believe trailers hits the nail on the head... That said it'd be great to have to option there... That options up another feature add required... the PreRoll video option needs to be per library rather than in the global server settings (mmm, on second thought it'd actually be better to have the global setting occur if no library setting exists)... This would enable us having trailers for Movies, and news (through podcasts or course ) for TV Shows... Those with kids can also have something kid friendly in their PreRoll, and something more adult in the grown up Movie section...

Possibly. I had a feature request in for TV trailers but there didn't seem to be much interest ( https://forums.plex.tv/topic/120381-tv-trailers/ ). I suppose TV pre-roll is a seperate thing though. I don't see a request for that as yet.

@OttoKerner Thanks for closing my suggestion. I’d like to re-iterate that my suggestion is unrelated to Plex collections as mentioned here. Mine suggests that instead of filenames, to insert a directory where the files are located. This suggestion relates to collections, not directories.
That’s what it says in the first post above.
It also uses the word ‘collection’ in the literal sense, not the technical sense of the Plex ‘collections’ feature.
If that’s the case, it’s not super clear hence why I created my post. I saw this post before.
For those following along, this feature suggestion is related to using a directory rather than filenames. Similar to how Emby manages it.
Whatever you call it, I think it would be great if you could point the preroll setting to a folder, one would be randomly selected. As many great prerolls have been created, I can’t keep track of the long string in the setting.
