I have the lifetime Plex pass. I use it for small children. Sometimes the app signs out which gives access to a lot of content I don’t want my kids having access to. How can I prevent the app from signing out? Alternatively, how do I prevent the unwanted content from loading when signed out? I use my Plex login, then the kids click their name to access their media. We use the iOS app. I’m an IT admin, so I also have the capability to do web content filtering (block URLs), so a web browser could also be a possibility. Has anyone else run into this?
Anyone have any thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks!
I haven’t seen this issue (or it’s been too long for me to remember).
Plex doesn’t usually automatically sign-out like this – the only scenario coming to mind is if clients are removed from the list of authorized devices (which cooks down to the device being signed out).
Especially if you’re signed in with your kids having a managed account, they should not be able to sign-out themselves (or if they try, they’ll end up on the user switching screen, not actually signing out from your admin account).
Content on your Plex server?
If so, do you have any entries in Settings → Network → List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth?
Devices allowed without authorization have admin level access. They can see all content on the server.
I’m assuming that removing clients from the list of authorize devices is something that I, as the Plex server admin would have to manually do (I’m not). It’s not automatic, correct?
Yes, I use my Plex login to authenticate, then the kids profiles are behind my login.
The kids have iPads with the Plex app for iOS. Periodically it gets signed out of the Plex app, then they have free reign to all the content that doesn’t require a login. Things we don’t want them seeing such as Nip Tuck.
Negative. Not content on my Plex server. Just all the free content that can be accessed from Plex without any login needed.
