Preview: Plex Media Server for Windows 64-bit version

Same here so I went on a search on the forums :upside_down_face:

Still hoping there might be some Easter eggs pop up in the alpha but they might come later from what has been said

Same as the regular beta. We will add a note if there is anything specific to 64-bit.

Custom playlist covers were removed overnight from all my playlists. This was listed as fixed in the 32 bit server, can you see if that fix made it to the 64 bit?

Damn. That happened to me after cleaning bundles. I thought it was me. Looks like a bug.

Tried to install the x64 version. But i get “claim server” and it dont work to press the claim server button, I have tried a clean install too, but dont work.

Just a quick anecdotal note: So far, the 64-bit version has been perfectly stable for me, with no scanning speed issues. I’m running Windows 10 21H2, and most of my library is on local JBOD drives, with a couple scans via SMB (to my DVR’s share).

Any big benefits to 64 bit atm?

@liamlovesyou I have found it more responsive than the 32bit version, for instance I use my PC for the DVR function so that I can view remotely. The recorded files skip to unbuffered parts much faster than the 32bit version.

PMS: 1.28.1.5985 64-bit on Windows 10
Plex app: 8.7
iOS: 16 beta 4

I have recently noticed that when running music in the background (iPhone or iPad) that over time that Plex eventually crashes on the device. TV shows and movies seem to be ok but I have admittedly not done any long-term testing as of yet.

I have tried both the current 64-bit and rolled back to the previous build just to double check but it is the same thing. I suspect this is an issue with the newest Plex app version (this just dropped the other day) as prior to that I don’t recall seeing this but not 100% sure if this is just the new client or it is a combination with the new client and the new 64-bit PMS.

I was going to roll back to the 32-bit PMS just to see if the issue continued (i.e. if it is only the client and not the server) but I wanted to first see if anyone else seen/experienced this while using the 64-bit PMS?

Note: if a dev wants to take a look I have both the iPad and PMS logs (both non-verbose) which I can DM to you…it seems to indicate there are some communication issues such as…

Client logs

Rolled back to the 32 bit server (also checked for db corruption but there was none  ) and can still reproduce the issue.

Therefore, I will make a bug post in the iOS forum section.

EDIT: Unchecked " Disable video stream transcoding" and now it seems to be playing everything… will keep an eye on it.
So… nevermind!

Before I get deep in trouble shooting… anyone else see this?..
After switching to 64 bit server on Win 10 PC a very few of my recorded shows will not play.
On Windows 10 / Chrome, on the same PC as the server is on, it says “This server is not powerful enough to convert video.” PC is new gaming machine NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060. 11th Gen Intel i5-11400f @ 2.6 GHZ… not powerful enough?
On TV with two different Rokus, Plex App cannot play this item. Error message is “Direct play is disabled.” (but it fails with server direct play set to AUTO or set to FORCED).
On LG TV The LG OS the Plex App plays them fine!
Never had this problem with the 32 bit version but I did not try these specific videos, just MANY others recorded the same way, with Plex using a HDHomeRun tuner.
A show I just now recorded using Plex / HDHomerun… will not play in Roku app. but does play in Chrome / Plex…

I’ve found it to be alot more stable for larger libraries

I lost access to my Settings and Libraries after installing preview build - They show in the menu but all the options say “Server settings are unavailable.”
Running Windows Server 2019
Any suggestions?

Same here, Windows 10, PMS for Windows 64-bit 1.28.1.6018, server settings are unavailable (and were on the previous x64 version as well). Everything else is working ok, @JohnAlex , since the settings menu option is unavailable due to this problem, can you tell me which logfile(s) you need please and I’ll zip it up manually and send it to you?

PMS 32bit usually falls over for me 2-3 times weekly, to the point where I now have Jellyfin running in a seperate VM and as soon as the LG TV Jellyfin app is released, I was planning on jumping ship.
Now, two weeks after installing 64bit it has not fallen over once, so a VAST improvement. I’m sure Tidal and whatever is useful to someone, but up to now I was basically done with Plex and it’s terrible stability. Is this enough to make me stay a user? Maybe, we’ll see. Dump the bare file usage in favour of a database and we might have a winner.

While I have not had continuous failures on the 32-bit (Windows 10 Pro) as others, I have noticed improved performance in general with the 64-bit and no dramatic issues. However, I have noticed that adding music to my library does cause a library wide scan, where I would think only a scan of added items would be appropriate. Now, I do have Sonic analysis enabled - could that be the cause (60000+ tracks). Don’t know but it has handled playback, DVR recording on multiple tuners and continuous uptime much better than even releases a year ago.

Did Version 1.28.1.6041 get updated and pushed again, overnight ?

I am sure I installed this when Version 1.28.1.6041 first got posted a few days back but it updated again just now.

There is no update posted in the announcement thread although the post was edited and updated 7 h ago. ?

Plex Media Server - Announcements - Plex Forum

What do I need to debug my issue with 64Bit version not tuning to any Live TV Channels using TBS 6902 DVBS/S2 Tuner 1.
I tried putting the folder and exes on the excluded list on windows defender but still the same.
As soon as I revert back to 32bit all is well

I have found that if I try and use the download new server update option in the PMS web client, though it appears to download and start the installation, it never finishes. I come back after about 30 minutes and it is still spinning/checking the server. Refreshing the page and logging back in still shows the PMS as the previous one.

However, if I manually install it with the supplied exe at the top of the thread, it takes less than 5 minutes to complete successfully.

Note that I already have the Plex folder(s) excluded from my antivirus. Is there something else I should be doing to have it complete as expected?

Since I skipped the version I have been unable to retrigger it to try and download again (i.e. to test it further) :frowning:

Is there a way to make it check again? My current Check for updates button is greyed out.

I’m curious as to what exactly you mean by this?
Plex currently uses a database to store metadata info, file info and locations, so your statement is a bit confusing.

64 bit Plex is the GOAT!
