Preview: Plex Media Server for Windows 64-bit version

Thanks for responding. I uninstalled the latest Plex and went to Version 1.28.1.6041 and have not had any issues. Hoping that can help y’all somehow.

I will have to research about making those repairs, because I have no idea how to go about doing that. I think I found the right Plex link for this. However, this Version 1.28.1.6041 is working just fine, so I am skipping the latest update completely.

That was roughly my plan as well, but good to know 6041 is also stable so I’ll try and find an installer for that and then kill automatic updates.

Edit: Not that I can readily find older x64 installers. Any idea where they live?

Edit2: Never mind, managed to cobble together a working link here

Is there a reason to upgrade to this version? Any performance benefits over X86? I’m on 1.28.1.6104 X86 version and it’s been super solid for months, and i’ve rarely had issue with X86 versions in the past.

Not at the moment, both are providing the same features. Might be different later for HDR tonemapping, though …

You could try if you are experiencing repeatedly crashing.

@drummerdude152002 Performance wise the 64-bit version is more responsive and seems to be a little faster when it comes to transcoding.

If the current version (32 bit) is working stay with it.

The 64 bit version is not noticeably faster or better IMO.

The 64 bit version is going public soon and will eventually be the only offering I expect.

That will be the time to move over.

PMS 64-Bit for Windows is now officially in beta, Plex Media Server - #531 by Ridley. You will still need to manually install the 64-bit version at least once before automatic updates will get the 64-bit.

Closing this thread since it is not a preview anymore. Please start a new thread if you have any issues with the latest version.
