Preview: Plex Media Server for Windows 64-bit version

Sorry. I referenced the preview build for iOS, but I can see where it may not be clear it is a preview. I’ve updated the title.

I know quite a few in my user group who already installed based on this being a public release

Hopefully it runs without issue.

When this becomes public, it will be announced in our regular release announcement.

Not sure if this is related but I don’t have a Recently Added TV hub any more since installing the 64 bit version. Checked Plex web and Android mobile clients.

Recently added is there for me.

Did you restart PMS ?

I had one issue with a media file that was played on a client but stopped. PMS however showed it still playing but no option to stop playback in Dashboard - the media file was listed in Dashboard but the usual Stop Playback option not there.

This was after installation of the 64 bit version but before restarting PMS.

Rebooted the actual machine with PM on it and all sorted.

On the general topic, a little disappointed the thread was not posted in the correct section. It certainly looked like a general release to me (prior to the thread title edit). I could go to the effort of reverting back to the 32 bit version but will move ahead and hope there are no major show stoppers.

@anon18523487 just to clarify. All future prod releases will honor the 64 bit version when you choose install update without us doing anything special starting with the next release. Yes?

I did reboot after the install and the hub isn’t there. Either on the home screen or the main TV library recommended tab. Verified that hub is still selected in the customization section. Weird.

Update: If I have recently added and recently released both selected in the customization section in server settings then only recently released shows. If I deselect recently released them recently added comes back. Again not sure if this is limited to the 64bit build since I can’t go back to the 32bit.

Unselect and reselect.

Worked for me once on a previous PMS update

I checked both and both show. I did select “Library Recommended” and “Home” in settings.

I checked Plex Web and Plex iOS (iPhone and iPad).

This here is the correct section.

No luck here. Recently Released takes precedence over Recently Added no matter how i select and deselect them. Movie library is fine it’s just my main TV library.

Maybe post logs for the staff to check.

I’ve tried multiple clients now and all works without issue.

Good luck

Installed the above 64 bit PMS on my Windows system. It uninstalled the 32 bit version as stated and then installed the 64 bit version.
When I ran Plex, it showed ( ! ) to the right of all my libraries. Tried waiting a few minutes, refreshed the browser and nothing changed - no files were available to play/browse.
Restarted my PC and Plex started immediately as I expect. (phew!)

Q: I must be running the 64 bit version because the old verson was uninstalled. But where can I view this in the Plex browser? Many programs will display the “bit” version by the build number, but Plex doesn’t appear to show this. Is this something that will be changed in the future?

Currently, you can only see “64 bit” in the primary server log file. It should appear right after a fresh server start.

Whether this will be incorporated into the web app is still undecided.

I am still happy to report this new 64 bit has been perfect so far. I was having several crashes prior to installing the 64 bit. Going 3 days strong no crashes whatsoever!

Also, I love how the new Live TV combines both our own DVR and Plex’s. I really like way it is organized into different sections under one source. Very clean.

Just to update the thread my recently released / recently added issue went away on its own. Guessing some part of the scheduled tasks cleared it up?

No issues as yet with my install on a Windows 10 machine.

Clients all running as expected.

Have not seen the Dashboard ‘now playing’ issue again, I suspect it was due to installing the 64 bit PMS whilst a client was playing something.

Time will tell.

Working great for me. Seems a little more responsive. Bring in new features!

How much of a delay should we expect in new releases compared to 32-bit beta? Currently it looks like the 64-bit version is one version older than the 32-bit beta version.

My version is 1.28.1.5985

Isn’t the latest beta Plex Media Server 1.28.0.5998 ?
