Preview: Plex Media Server for Windows 64-bit version

I’m seeing the same. I admit to making an assumption about the version numbering. I assumed the ‘1’ after ‘28’ is meant to distinguish the 64-bit release from the 32-bit one (with ‘0’ after ‘28’). And the last four digits represents the build number, which, if different, might imply a different set of features, functions and/or bug fixes, with the higher number containing the most current content.

So, I’m assuming build 5985 is older than build 5998 with respect to release content, and if the build number were the same for both 64-bit and 32-bit releases, they would be exactly the same except for the bitness. I could certainly be mistaken.

I’m finding that Plex on Roku is slower after the upgrade to the 64 bit version of Plex on Windows.

TCL Roku TV
Loading series/seasons on Plex is markedly slower taking 6-8 seconds to display the season thumbnails whereas before, it only took 1-3 seconds for them to appear.

I have the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\ folder directed to its own 2TB SSD so it’s not like I’m waiting for my HDD to locate the files, etc.

Plex Server
Windows 10 Pro x64 version 21H2 (I’m too :chicken:to switch my Plex Server to 11 yet)
Ryzen 7 5700G
Integrated GPU (hardware decode = enabled; Hardware encoding = disabled)
64GB 3600 RAM

Both my system disk and Plex data folders are on speedy Gen 3 SSDs.
this system does nothing but run Plex - so no other apps are being used.

Plex on my TV is TCL Roku connected via ethernet with Local Network Discovery selected on the server as well as on my TV/Roku.

Every client I’ve tried so far is as fast if not faster than on the 32 bit version so far.

I have two Telstra TVs which are essentially Roku devices and noticed no change really.

My PMS is on a Ryzen 2700x with 16GB slow 2400 ram and Win 10 Pro so nothing special. Fairly old RX580X GPU. All SSDs. It does quite a few duties incl our main desktop, HTPC.

I am using most clients on wifi via an ax 5 ghz connection to the server. Very clean network environment luckily.

Haven’t heard any issues from remote users as yet.

Thanks, John, good to know. I’ll keep an eye on the speed.

PlexDash is not reporting remote play correctly.

Local and remote bandwidth appear reversed in server graphs. I’m seeing download activity when there should be none,

Also, the actual bandwidth is reporting way too low. Getting really narrow high peaks and then no activity.

Edit - deleted PlexDash and reinstalled. Appeared resolved for a few seconds but it is strange I’m getting a high brief peak in bandwidth for the media file which is a 1080P 5 Mbps 5.1 file being transcoded to a 720P stereo for playback on a Roku.

iOS.

I may do a rescan on media folders as well and clear caches

I also wanted to add the same comment!! My Plex server was ending up in a deadlocked state and/or crashing daily on the 32-bit version. I have not had the server end up crashing or in the deadlocked state since I installed the 64-bit version on July 21st!

Thank you so much, Plex team!!!

I am happy to hear the new 64 bit version is helping others as well. I have had Plex for over 5 years and this is probably the longest I have gone without any crashing whatsoever. I do have a massive library and tons of users on my Plex at once. Then I often have the DVR going and large files scans going on top of all that. This new version is handling everything without an issue. I read in the other thread the 64 bit helps with high memory usage.

When Plex is stable and works this well it is the greatest program. I am concerned when a new 64 bit version comes out if I should even upgrade? I really like this consistency right now!

Yeah, I think I am at around 7 years with Plex now. But my library is quite massive as well so I always chalked up the crashing due to this reason.

Yeah, I think before I do any upgrading in the future, I will definitely be waiting for a while and checking forum threads on the subject.

This 64-bit is a forum preview now. Updates will only appear here in this thread. Once, it goes to beta, it will be released at the same time as the 32-bit version.

I’ve found the 64bit interface is working about 50% faster as is its delivery of content to my smart TV. Only shortfall I currently see is the backgrounds are missing and cannot be set to display in both movies and tv

Got it. Thanks!

Never mind. Issue sorted.

Will PMS64 bit update automatically to newer nightlies, or should I disable checking for updates just in case it tries to grab a 32bit installer?

So, this is a nightly, which is before Beta.

Edit - Plex forum software stripping out the quote again. Was replying to Ripleya.

Huh? I don’t get your question.

The trick is not to quote the other post in its entirety. Full quotes are yucky.
i.e. if you’d kept only the second sentence in the quote, it would’ve worked.

Never have this on any other forum except this one

Back on topic however, the 64 bit version is running without issue. I’d suggest, everything server side and client side actually faster and more responsive.
