Has anyone else had issues with the scanner after converting to 64 Bit? Mine has been super slow since switching over, almost as bad as it was before the new scanner came out.
Youâll have to be a bit more specific.
Which scanner? What type of library? Can you provide server logs?
Itâs for why whole server so my movie, tv and music libraries. All are set to the new default scanner (Plex movie, Plex TV Series and Plex Music scanners)
Itâs a bit difficult to find useful information in your logs as youâll need to enable debug logging as described in the server logs support document.
One thing I did notice was some errors at the end of the log indicating that the server is unable to resolve the plex.tv hostname.
Jul 28, 2022 08:58:44.243 [9740] WARN - [HttpClient/HCl#236] HTTP error requesting GET http://plex.tv/pms/:/ip (6, Couldn't resolve host name) (Could not resolve host: plex.tv)
Firstly, enable debug logging, then restart the server and let it do some scans and then grab new logs after that.
Is your network configuration special in any way that could possibly cause these DNS issues?
Thanks for the reply. Enabled debug logging and am restarting the server/pc now. And no, there is nothing out of the ordinary about my network configuration itâs just a standard windows PC. Can I PM you my logs when I run a new scan? Just worried there my be some identifiable information in there like my ip or something
You can DM the logs to me if youâre more comfortable with that.
Has anyone else experienced extremely slower scanning speeds (of all library types) with the 64-bit version? All of my media are on 2 different NAS units, if that might help narrow it down.
No network or other configuration changes. The logs donât indicate any per-file scanning activity occurring or have there been any changes (the logs are nothing but lines like the statement Iâve quoted below).
For an example, my Movies library that previously took ~20 seconds to scan is now taking over 5 minutes. TV Shows are even worse. Any ideas?
Skipping over directory 'L', as nothing has changed; removing 173 media items from map.
I just scanned movies and it finished in a few seconds. So for me no issues. Recommend getting logs to the Plex team.
Ok finally finished the scan (this one took over an hour). DMâd you the logs.
I skimmed the thread too fast and posted by own report of this problem - same symptoms. Are your files locally-stored, or on a NAS?
Mine are local, usb hard drives.
So I think I fixed it, kinda. Amid a 30-minute TV scan, I added an exclusion for the Windows Antimalware scanner for the Plex Media Server and Plex Media Scanner processes. Itâs back to the good fast speed now ![]()
My movie library consists of around 35,000 movies. I do believe it is taking a very long time to scan through them. However, I can now scan back to back and multiple times without it disrupting my any of my users watching off my Plex. Before when it would scan so many files it would absolutely cause issues. Especially if I scanned back to back. I will gladly trade slower scanning for better consistency.
I have now gone a full week without a single crash! This is incredible. I am so thankful I no longer have to restart Plex or my PC.
Should I try this? I donât know if I even have this? I have Windows 11 with default settings.
I think itâs the same on W11 as W10. Search for âvirus and threat protectionâ, then âManage Settingsâ, then âadd and remove exclusionsâ, then add the Plex install directory to it (C:\Program Files\Plex).
Thank you for that. I did exactly as you said. I had to choose the option to select folder and then I pointed to the directory you mentioned. I just started a scan and it is seems faster. It still takes quite a while to scan 35k, but that doesnât bother me at all. It takes around 20-25 minutes.
So you guys are excluding a folder and files from virus scanning that belong to a program that has a firewall exception and an open port.
A port that is known to be probed by hackers and bots.
A program that is in alpha status.
Hmmmm.
If using Remote Access, it uses a random external port. But if/when Plex figures out why the scanner was slowing it down so much (when the 32-bit version didnât have this problem), Iâll turn it back on.
I have a large library. Apart from the expected first slow scan on my libraries, it has been as usual in subsequent scans and actually much faster than the 32 bit version I have had for almost a decade.
This would suggest it is not necessarily related to this version. However, I hope you can get it resolved.
As for random port open, remote access by nature is a fixed port but perhaps you have a different setup.
When I run alphas (very rare) or betas, I always take extra precautions, not remove safeguards. Typically why I sandbox apps. This one caught me out however as missed it was an alpha at first and jumped in.
Will I need to set up my existing libraries all over again and all that after upgrading to 64 bit or will everything remain intact after it installs? I think I saw a couple mentions but it just want to make sure before upgrading.
