Preview: Plex Media Server for Windows 64-bit version

How strange, when I used version 32, in an hour I had everything ready. Of course I have much less content, but the difference compared to now is very big!

Did you try adding Plex to your antivirus exclusions like previously suggested in this thread?

Yes, it is, but without any result :frowning:

For that reason I want to do a downgrade, but I get an error in my libraries and they are all empty

Probably best to get some debug logs then and send them to @anon18523487.

Hey, do you happen to know anything about the scans taking forever on 64 bit? I can sends logs if you need, but all I my scans have taken well over an hour since I upgraded, when before they would take like a couple minutes.

I’ve been using this version on my backup server. I haven’t had any issues so far. One thing I noticed was a new tab named ā€œCatagoriesā€ appeared beside ā€œCollectionsā€.
Is it a new feature?

So in near future 32 bit PMS is gonna be a thing of the past ?

Anybody having trouble with Live TV Tuner since upgrading? I had just retuned all my channels and when I upgraded to 64bit none of my recordings worked then I couldn’t tune to any channel. Keep getting playback error Could not tune channel. Please check your tuner or antenna.

I downgraded back to 32bit version and its all working again.

I could never get Live TV Tuner to run reliably on 32 bit. Maybe I should try on 64 bit

I thought at first the extra speed and CPU load drop was placebo but the 64 bit version is better in both regards, on my HTPC at least.

I may even try hardware transcoding again.

My Live/TV works better on 64 bit. Especially the recording. I didn’t change anything, but my Plex install was almost brand new when I switched to 64 bit.

Maybe you could have tried removing the tuner and readding it.

I like that they combined their live tv with our live tv.

first thing I tried was removing and readding. I will hang on a bit longer before jumping back onto the 64bit unless anyone else has been affected by this and found a workaround

Live TV with my Hauppauge OpenCable Receiver works just as well as it did on the 32bit branch of PMS. No complaints.
Like others on Windows 10/11, I have the Microsoft Security settings to include Ransomware protection. I did add the Plex Tuner Service to the allowed apps with folder access.

I have daily crashes with mine with the x86 version. I have installed an app RestartOnCrash so when it does crash that app can relaunch it. Just installed the x64 tonight and we will see if that fixes mine also.

I too was having nightly crashes and after installing this build for 48 hours it hasn’t crashed, it hasn’t been glitchy, it’s running very smooth. The only thing which has been brought up already is the scans are very slow. But I would take this stable build over anything for the past couple months. Good work Plex team!!

I have been using the 64-bit version for about a week now. I never had unexplained crashes with the 32-bit version, but did have issues with scans and maintenance runs that would hang PMS. Have not seen that now. I have noticed more scans but as far as I am concerned as long as the scan process does not diminish operational throughput of media play, I am not concerned. I have 900 movies, 2000 TV episodes and 60000 music tracks. Setup is dual Xeon 12GB USB 3.0 drives for media, SSD for OS and Plex Media Server data folders. So far quite satisfied with playback response and TV recording which is a daily activity with multiple tuners.

I have not noticed this, so please provide logs. Have you checked your virus scanner like others have mentioned?

Are you guys that are having ā€˜issues’ with slow scans/long scans using automated and scheduled scans and if so, what settings ?

Mine run overnight and then I have a partial folder scan set for when new content gets added.

I never do manual scans.

Yes when new content is added it just takes a long time to scan automatically. But it’s not a big deal for me. Live TV on the other hand has been running super smooth and I’ve been able to remove a defective TV tuner and add a new one without the server crashing after 24 hours of doing that. This build is actually really great.

I lost access to my Settings and Libraries after installing preview build - They show in the menu but all the options say ā€œServer settings are unavailable.ā€

Running Windows Server 2019

Any suggestions?

Hmmm. Not seeing any major difference myself.

These are my folder scan settings. I have no need for Plex to rescan my entire library.

Edit - oh and I disabled Generate video preview thumbnails as I don’t need them and they suck up CPU time and HD space.
