A very welcome change to Plex!
I’ve got an M1-classic , an M1-Pro and an M1-Max to test with. Tempted to try it on the M1-classic that I use as a rack mounted server though - in at the deep-end.

I downloaded the application for my M1 but when I open it, it just takes me into safari and shows me the web interface. What am I doing wrong?
Any help appreciated.
This is great news. Thanks.
I decided to take the plunge and noticed a very minor issue. Is this thread the best place to post? It is simply that I run two plex servers in different locations. The server web interface running on the same machine as the M1 Server doesn’t seem able to connect to the second server running on a non-M1 machine. Whereas all my other clients see both servers. No big deal but I thought I should report it. {Edit] Seems to be fixed by re-enabling remote access on the non-M1 server. False alarm. Not sure what happened and whether it is related to this install.
What you are doing wrong is downloading this server application thinking it’s the player application which isn’t available yet.
Ah, I understand. Thanks.
We hope to release this officially soon. If there are more preview builds, I will update the original post.
Had some issues with some clients like Rocky and Android saying my connection to the server isn’t fast enough to play. I switched back to the Rosetta version and have no issues.
Thank you!
That’s a nice upgrade. Just like you said, speeds were already quite good, but now it will be more (energy) efficient
Thank you! Its a very good thing i can now use native PMS! I am using it for 2days now and no issue. You made a good job.
Fantastic news! Just installed it and excited to see how it works with my M1 Mac mini.
have you tested transcoding on your Ultra?
Im considering buying a Mac studio M1 max with 32 cores and 64 gb of ram to run my Plex server.
How many transcodes did you get?
Nice, hopefully this paves the way to get rid of the horrible horrible lagging gui in the client app.
Which client are you referring too? Server Version or type will not make any difference in that regard.
They are referring to the non M1 native MacOS client app.
Thank you for the Plex Server M1 beta version!
Looking forward to future native h265 VideoToolbox support for transcoding/streaming.
And thank you for the Discover feature! The one streaming channel catalog to rule them all!
It doesn’t make any difference to the VideoToolbox stuff either way.
Everything else, yes.
Is Plex going to add the ability to stream remotely using h265 VideoToolbox for transcoding rather than h264?
The only thing I have noticed is some screen tearing and stuttering. When the movie pans, it’s pretty bad. It’s very visible. We’ve noticed it on both TV, both TV4K. Other than that the performance and playback have been really good.
Has anyone else noticed the screen tearing?
Plex currently only supports transcoding into h264, on any platform.
There’s an active feature suggestion, vote for it! Transcode to HEVC/x265
@wakkedoff is that for video that has been transcoded? Does it change if you (as a test) disable hardware transcoding on the server?
I’m curious if it’s a server+transcoding issue, or if it’s a client+playback issue and might deserve a new thread.
