Preview: "Universal" PMS build for macOS (a.k.a. M1 support!)

Good question, so far it’s happened with direct stream files. I will disable hardware transcoding, playback the same scene and report back my finding.

If it’s happening with Direct Stream, then transcoding isn’t involved, and it’s more likely to be a player-side issue. Make a new thread and share media info.

Is it now better to turn Hardware Transcoding off?

I’m getting a 409 error when I try to download a playlist to an iOS device with this universal server. Downloads of movies and series work but no dice with a playlist.

So… I am totally ignorant, but have learned quite a bit in the last 48hrs - will this help me get Plex running on my Synology DS218 that is is connected to my M1 Studio? Right now I have ca-ca - I would just like to se the "basics’ work. maybe I’m tired (it’s been a long week) but I cannot see what I’m missing. I have deleted and re-installed several times with zero success.

The issue I’m noticing with this M1 build is - when it’s installed - if I add or remove video files from a ‘watched’ folder - the catalog of movies does not update to reflect the changes. I delete the M1 build of the Server and replace it with the standard Intel build - (with no settings / prefs changes) - the movies list reacts to reflect the changes within milliseconds. Is this the ‘No auto-update’ mentioned above?
(Mac Studio, M1 Max)

No. This is a new version of the Plex Media Server software built to run natively/optimally on the newer M1 Macs. This doesn’t have anything to do with your Synology.

Do you still have the logs when this happened? I especially would like to see that start of PMS. That should indicate if it is monitoring your library folders.

Will we be notified of new updates? Or do we just need to check this page out? Plex Media Server

See above.

Wonder if there has been a newer version released? Just cautious as the app won’t update it’s self.

See the original post… first time I saw this post, it was 1.26.1.5798 now it is 1.26.2.xxxx so check back each time to see if any new versions like what MovieFan.Plex said.

Will this just install over the top of my existing rosetta installation?

Yes. Just replace the existing app.

Not being “that guy” but wondering if there’s any ETA on this? Not sure what “soon” means in the context of Plex software development (days, weeks, months?). Not having any issues with the current version but am eager (like the rest of us, I’m sure) to have this in the official release cycle. :slightly_smiling_face:

Agreed! I’m dying to try this, bought my Mac Studio specifically for Plex  Hoping it hits beta soon so I can try it, can’t wait!

It is in beta isn’t it? It’s running happily on my M1 Mini. Though I’m not sure I’m getting any actual benefit - was hoping it would transcode more/quicker when downloading to my iPad but it seems the same as the Rosetta version…

Did you read that part in OP? Preview: "Universal" PMS build for macOS (a.k.a. M1 support!)

I have been automatically offered version 1.27.0.5897 as an upgrade to 1.26.2.5797. Will that be a Universal PMS build too? Doesn’t say in the notes…

New Universal build to catch up to current release.

Changes are the same as in 1.27.0 release notes.
