Priority for TV shows in Continue Watching

I have a large library with a lot of TV shows and as a consequence when a show has been off the air for some time and then returns with new episodes it can be very far down my continue watching list and if I didn’t notice it in recently added I may not realise it’s there. What I would like is to be able to give a priority to specific shows which would mean when they have a new episode they are automatically moved to the start of continue watching so I could ensure my favourite shows are always right there at the front of the list while the rest are added as normal.

Even for those who might not miss releases like I occasionally do I could still see this being helpful since many people have a show or shows that they know they usually want top of their watching list.

Essentially I think what I want is a way to “favourite” a show and then for my “favourites” to always appear first on continue watching if there are unwatched episodes. I suppose it could also be a toggle to if it behaved this way or not in the settings in case some people would like favourites without the forced first part?

For the time being… you can create a smart collection filtering your library for specific shows that have unplayed episodes. Then publish that collection to the home screen. The resulting hub should only show if there’s actual matching content.

Filter could be like this:

Match All
  > Match Any
    > Title is "Show 1"
    > Title is "Show 2"
    > Title is "Show3"
    > ...
  > Episode unplayed is true

Alternatively you could assign a special sharing label to the shows you want to track/monitor and use that in your filter, e.g.

Match All
  > Label is "Monitored Shows"
  > Episode unplayed is true

Where “Monitored Shows” is the label assigned to the shows in question.

Edit: the 2nd option is probably more accurate and a bit more easy to maintain in the long run.

Thank you, this is very helpful for a slightly more complicated interim solution. Do you know if there’s any way to have these smart playlists show on home for managed users also or is it only the admin account?

You can publish those hubs to friends / managed users too (see the support article on publishing collections in my post above → orange color text)
You can even configure the smart collection to apply the user’s watched state or user ratings (:pencil2: > AdvancedCollection filtering based on)

Instead of creating a collection, use the “Star” system to indicate your favorites. That’s what they are for, and you can filter for them too.

Say you just added “show name s03e01 title.mp4”

There’s 2 years between seasons sometimes so I get it

What I’ve got into the habit of doing is going into the library and marking the last episode of season 2 “show name s02e10 title.mp4” as unwatched then as watched

That will drop it in the number one spot in continue watching

I realize it’s a somewhat silly workaround but it’s a little less complicated
