Support for “iOS photos & videos” (HEIF, HEIC, etc) When will that be added to plex?
Answer:
This requires some changes to dependencies in Plex Media Server that deal with image analysis and conversion. These are big refactors to components that have been here for over a decade that we are currently working on and while we don’t have an ETA for them yet, they will unlock support for more formats like HEIF/HEIC in the future.
Plex Photos App (iOS): why can’t I download MY own content from the app??
Answer:
This has come up in multiple places before and we have discussed at a minimum enabling sharing functionality through your device’s default share menu (which should enable local saving in most cases). However, this effort has fallen down the priority list for us and isn’t something that will get attention anytime soon. A lot of the de-prioritization has to do with reverting the decision to not have photos in the main apps and the people that would work on this are now working on building the photos experience in the main apps.
