Hello everyone! First - a huge THANK YOU to all of the questions, comments, and participation in the Fireside this year! We aren’t done yet, but we are going to be wrapping up the question thread later today while we continue working to respond to as many questions as we can throughout the rest of Pro Week.
This is a reminder that this thread will be closed for new questions at 5PM ET today (Wednesday Sept 24). Please make sure to get your questions added before then!
Does this include the existing questions that have so far been ignored*/rejected^? (yes this includes my own, but also many others)
*no response
^told that it is a feature request or similar, despite other questions being greenlighted that are arguably also feature requests (seems like petty semantics/pedantry around what is a “question”)
Big fan of Plex and even bigger fan of Plexamp. A few questions from me.
Is external video player playback for the Android Plex client on the roadmap?
On my Android phone, I have download quality on WiFi set to original. But when i download videos, often it transcodes anyway. The odd thing is that I can direct play these files that are being transcoded. How can I fix this, or is this just a bug?
In Plexamp, in the Search tab can we please have the ability to easily switch music libraries. So I can choose which library or libraries are being searched? There is an drop down menu in the home tab that if placed in the Search tab would be useful.
4 I’d love to hear more about the development plans for Plexamp and any upcoming features and changes.

Is there any hope that Plex could one day (maybe sooner than later?) pull in and list Producer metadata for music?
This would be a huuuge win for any rap fans especially! What can I say, some producers just really now how to make great beats, i.e. DJ Premier. It would be amazing to create smart playlists with this information!
@McWanke any chance of having this one addressed in the Fireside AMA, please?
Do you anticipate the redesign / new code base to be faster for those of us with mobile devices and also using the TV tuner? I found it to be painfully slow when trying to view my own TV guide and not the Plex Channels TV guide.

Please don’t change the Web interface to the Plex server. Adopting your new UI would make it much more difficult to manage my content. Vertical tabs are a must. I really don’t like your your new “Unified” interface for clients, primarily due to Horizontal navigation, increasing the number of clicks to get to the desired content and reducing the usefulness of Playlists by not including them as a Library item. Being able to see all my playlists in one place is much more useful.
Also, please leave the Plex Windows app alone. It works the way most of your users would prefer your “Universal” apps would work.
Will Plex ever add the inclusion of streamlink files for libary purposes? I want to see a way to have my movie or tv show in my Library. I can click to play and it takes me to Apple TV where I purchased the movie.
I already saw at least one another person ask about Watch Together in the new apps, so hoping to hear good news on that front…
In the new apps, what will be the destiny of the Music Videos functionality? Is that going to be preserved/expanded upon?
And in a related note, is there any thought to representing Music Concerts in a similar way, or with a dedicated scraper/library, perhaps that may even deep link into my music?
Cheers, and thanks for a world class product! Our family loves Plex!

I expect that Plex will further integrate AI into its products in the future. I have two distinct questions on this matter. First, can you commit to leaving users like myself who have no interest in, and will refuse to use such features completely off? Second, can you commit to providing the user with the option to completely self-host the AI models? Doing so otherwise seems like a significant privacy issue.
Fireside Note: This appears to be a duplicate or very similar to this question. See this answer around AI for more context. We also have no current plans on offering local AI features.
I was just about to ask for an “Editions” tag for TV Shows, when I discover not one but two posts asking about it, and employees expressing optimism about it. However, those posts locked from inactivity shortly afterwards in 2022. Any update?
The reason I want this: Detective Conan has a new re-dub with different voice actors, and keeping it separate from my main Detective Conan entry is a pain, as Plex refuses to treat two separate folders in my TV Shows folder as separate. In fact, any new file added to the MAIN entry appears in the “New Dub” library item, so I have to split that show out again and re-merge the new file into the main entry.
Hello everyone! As we don’t have an unlimited stock of firewood here at Plex, it means that the Fireside eventually must come to an end. We are approaching that point here in this questions thread.
Here is how this will work. If you have any last minute questions please feel free to add them while this thread is open. We will be closing it shortly for any future posts. However, we aren’t done with this AMA yet. Just because we haven’t responded to or commented on a question yet does not mean that it won’t be for this year’s Fireside. We will be working on responding to more of these through the rest of this week (and have quite a few answers being worked on as I write this).
This will be my last post here in this thread, but I will be around in the AMA Answers thread throughout the rest of Pro Week. Speaking of Pro Week, please make sure that you check out the rest of the awesome content available from our Plex Pros. This includes:
Finally, thank you so much to all of you in this community. You make these Fireside chats fun and I would like to thank everyone here for reading, writing, and participating. We couldn’t do it without you!
Thank you,
Kevin
PS - and for those who have been around for a while, this post was “reviewed” and liked by a Plex pup. Eevee says hi!
