Problem with HEVC HDR content on iPhone SE (1st gen)

Hi,

I’m having problems playing HDR content on my iPhone SE from 2016 with Plex App.

Here are screenshots from playing the same video file. Left column is Plex for iOS v7.17, the right one is VLC for iOS v3.2.13 streaming the same file from Unraid SMB share over my network. As you can see, playback on Plex app has a lot of black artefacts.

My server is running Plex Media Server v1.22.3.4523 in Docker container with Intel Core i5-3570K CPU (no GPU in the system).
I have Plex Pass and here are my transcoder settings.

Video details:

Format                                   : Matroska
Format                                   : HEVC
Format profile                           : Main 10@L4@Main
HDR format                               : SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible
Codec ID                                 : V_MPEGH/ISO/HEVC
Bit rate                                 : 3 154 kb/s
Bit depth                                : 10 bits

I have checked other HEVC+HDR files and I’m getting the same results.

Also worth mentioning, when I’m playing this file on my phone, Plex Dashboard shows that it’s a direct stream. Also, while playing it on Windows PC with GTX 1060 with Plex, I’m not getting these artefacts.

Any idea how can I fix it?

It has been over 2 months and still no response? I’m now on:

  • Server Version#: 1.33.0.2444
  • Player Version#: 7.21.1

and it’s still not working.
