Problem with PCM 5.1 format

Server Version#: latest
Player Version#: latest

Hello everyone,

I have my plex server and media on a mini-home theater pc. I pass my audio, through HDMI, and convert it to the optical output. Then the HDMI signal (video) goes to my TV (it has not optical output or HDMI ARC), while the optical output goes to my receiver ( LG Set Home Cinema LHB655NW). Until now everything works fine. However, when a media has a PCM 5.1 audio, I can hear the surround speakers, but the dialogs do not played through the central speaker.
I try every setting but the problem still remains. This problem does not exist if the audio is DTS, Dolby surround and etc, but only with PCM format, even if my home cinema can work with LPCM.
Please can anyone suggest anything?

5.1 channel PCM doesn’t fit into the optical pipeline, so to speak. You cannot use “passthrough” with it.

Which Plex client type are you actually using? Is it Plex Media Player or Plex Player for Windows?

I have used them both, with the same result.
Is there any result to overcome this situation?

Which connection type did you select in the player settings?
Was it “optical” or “HDMI”? It must be “optical”.

Through HDMI. and then I connect my HDMI with an optical output converter

Yes, but you must select “optical” as the connection type in the settings of PMP/Plex Player.

Otherwise your TV will get 5.1 in PCM per HDMI. But it cannot pass through this audio format over TOSLink to your speaker. So the audio needs to get converted to AC3 5.1 or you won’t be able to hear all 6 channels.
And that by setting your connection type to “optical”, you are telling the Plex client to do that.
