Hello everyone, I’m having a problem with my plex server. For some reason it started transcoding everything to a very high bitrate, i tried limiting this by going to Quality on plex web and putting Home streaming on 12Mbps, and going to the server settings and setting Limit remote stream bitrate to 12 Mbps. The remove limiting worked, but my home stream is still very high.
I have the setting “Play smaller videos at original quality” but it still tries to upscale everything i watch. Anyone know why?
The original file bitrate for the file im playing now is 1.8 Mbps for example, but it’s scaling it up quite alot.
You do not have debug logging enabled for your server so there isn’t much info to diagnose the issue. Please enable this setting (verbose logging should be off), restart PMS, recreate the issue and grab new logs.
Sorry about that, seems i turned on debug for the player, not the server. Tried watching Akudama drive now, with 8.1mbps orignal bitrate. But server shoots it up to around 30-40 Mbps. I restarted the PMS as requested after enabling debug.
Please feel free to ask anyting else that can aid your troubleshooting. I’m a bit lost at what it can be.
Ok. PMS is transcoding the video at 20 Mbps. This is because it has to burn in the subtitles, so yes It is bumping up the bitrate. Keep in mind that bitrates are the average. PMS will cap spikes to x2 so yes, you will see spikes in the 30-40 range, but as you see, the average is ~21.
