Hello…I am attempting to reinstall Plex on Win 10 desktop. I had an issue where my C: drive was full (found out later my son had installed Fortnite). Anyway, I thought that I could free up space by moving plex to my D: partition. So, I uninstalled it and then attempted to reinstall to a new target.
The install works fine, for the Plex service, the media server and the new Plex App,. I can see and access Plex, but after I install the media server, I cannot get to the setup screen to create my libraries. I also noticed that an attempt to call localhost from either MS Edge or Google Chrome returns a connection error. I also no longer see a Plex icon on my toolbar.
I have tried a DNS flush, clearing my cache, manually deleting every Plex folder and, in classic IT Crowd fashion, turning my computer off and back on again. Nothing seems to work.
My PC runs on an Intel Core-i7 processor with 16GB RAM running Win10. I have no other partitions running other OS’s.
If you don’t know then you’re not. It’s not easy at all to create as service!!!
Okay, a simple uninstall/reinstall should not cause you network issues unless a firewall is blocking.
I would first like to say you don’t need to uninstall pms from c: because the space is running low. All you need to do is tell plex to use a different metadata path(D: i guess in this case)
Oddly enough, I would uninstall then reinstall back to c:\program file…etc.
I say this cause the original setup you had worked. No need to over complicate the situation.
When you have completed this and plex is online. make sure all looks good.
Now follow these instructions.
Follow them one-by-one and you will have no problems.
I did reinstall Plex to my C drive. however, when I attempt to reinstall the Media Server, I have problems. I have done multiple full uninstalls/re-installs of the Media Server and each time the install completes, I click the Launch button which should take me to Plex to set up my media folders. However, after clicking Launch nothing happens. This is the step where your guidance is greatly appreciated
One more clarification………in both the app and the browser based versions, when I go to settings in plex, I don’t see server as a link on the left side. This tells me the server install failed somewhere along the way.
Inspect the Windows Task Manager if you see Plex Media Server running.
Is it listed?
Use regedit.exe to inspect the registry branch HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server
if it exists, does it have a key named LocalAppDataPath?
And if so, what is the content of this key? Does it point to a valid drive/folder on your computer?
Success!!! The registry seemed to be pointing to the wrong place. I re-directed it to c:/users//AppData/Local/Plex and the Media Server is now accessible. However, when I attempt to set up libraries, I now get a message “An Unexpected Error Has Occurred”
