I ran out of disk space with Plex so uninstalled it and reinstalled it on a different drive with much more space.
Downloading the latest from the website. It seemed to go on ok but doesn’t launch, I see it in the system manager but not in the system tray and Plex doesn’t see it active either.
Pretty much at the point where I think I’ll need to rebuild the PC but if anyone has any smarter idea’s I’d love to hear them.
If you ran out of disk space, then uninstalling and installing the Plex program folder on a different volume won’t achieve much.
You see, all the old Plex metadata might still be present on your C: drive -. unless you removed them, following the thorough uninstallation procedure: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201941078-uninstall-plex-media-server/
The plex data base probably got damaged due to the drive getting full.
That might also be the reason why it still doesn’t start.
Follow the linked procedure to remove all the Plex data completely.
After you have installed a fresh copy of Plex server, you must tell Plex to use a different location for its data.
Make sure that your drive D: is formatted with the NTFS file system or you won’t be able to use it for Plex. https://support.plex.tv/articles/200289496-general/
‘The path where local application data is stored’
In case you’re also installing the Plex software onto D: don’t try to point Plex to the same folder. Keep the software and the data in different folders!
