Is there a 64-Bit version?

Windows

When running on Windows, the following operating system versions are supported. Minimum support varies, depending on whether you’re installing the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Plex Media Server.

  • 32-bit: Windows 7 SP1 or newer / Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or newer
  • 64-bit: Windows 8 or newer / Windows Server 2012 or newer

Under Windows select “Chose Distribution” and it will pop up

To add to @JaysPlex post, note that Plex will soon drop support for Windows 7 & 8.

Thanks, I didn’t know I had been running 32-Bit for years, now on 64-Bit.
Yes I agree with support for Windows 10 (1607) and upwards, you should also remove 32-Bit installs, the last time I installed a 32-Bit OS was Windows ME.
Windows 11 has no 32-Bit installs
Good move team Plex

That is such a shame as I will not upgrade to Windows 10 or any later versions until Windows stops forced updates (but I can’t see that happening). Others may not mind Windows taking over their computers, but I am not one of them. So I may ditch Windows and go to Linux and have to find another Media Server for all my films and TV series. I will stick with Plex until it becomes unstable, then it will be bye bye Windows and bye bye Plex. Thank you for the many years I have enjoyed using Plex, it’s a shame it has to end in the not too distant future.

This is only true for the 10+ Home editions, and you can either pause updates for a set amount of time or select that you are on a metered connection. The latter makes it so Windows will never download an update without your permission.

You could also go fancier and just disable the Windows Updating Service until you want to re-enable for an update. Or just get the Pro editions for only a little more money.

This whole “I’m not updating past Windows 7 due to blah blah blah reasons” is such a weird hill people are willing to die on.

I have been on every edition of Windows from 95 to 8.1 which was my choice! Why should I be forced to go to 10 or 11 because Windows wants to dictate that all Windows users must update their systems or buy a new computer if their new versions of windows won’t work on their computer. Even on new computers you can’t install a lower version of Windows than 10. If you are quite content on being told what you can or cannot run on your own computer that is up to you. I for one am not!

  1. If you truly stopped at 8.1, then my condolences. 8.1 is up there in the worst versions ever released.
  2. Their newer versions (10 and 11) work just fine on many of the computers they say are incompatible. Windows 10 legit requires 1MHz processing and 1GB(32-bit)/2GB(64-bit) RAM, which my cheap college computer over a decade and a half ago easily eclipsed.
  3. Outdated OSs are a problematic nightmare for malware and such unless you keep them fully off the internet.
  4. I’m libertarian as heck, and even I don’t see where MS is forcing you to do anything other than have a properly operating system for their software (a pretty common requirement).
  5. I clearly showed you how to stop the auto-updates that you were talking about.
  6. MS themselves announced discontinued support for Windows 7 and 8 a while ago. This wasn’t a Plex thing at all.

Bite the bullet my friend, move to at least Windows 10 64-Bit with 8GB memory and a 256SSD.
You will never look back
What is wrong with Windows Updates? they are there for a reason (improvements)
Windows 10 is a free upgrade from WIndows 7
If you carry on using Windows 7, certain websites and updated software/drivers will stop working or become redundant…
Just my 2 cents worth!!

You can install Plex Server on Linux.
