Where to download plex server for windows 7

I had a recent hard drive issue, so my windows 7 plex install has to be redone. I KNOW that plex isn’t supporting windows 7 anymore, but still need the install for windows 7 plex. I have plex installed on a windows 10 pc, but hate windows 10 networking and updates SOOO much. So please, tell me where I can go go get a plex install for windows 7. (I had just bought plex recently because it worked so great on my windows 7 pc)

Figure something else out but don’t do what you’re about to do. Not safe even the slightest.

Thank you SO much, the windows 7 64 bit said it couldn’t install for my pc, even though I run 64 bit, but the 32 bit worked and now my plex is back up and running, thank you for your quick reply! Why can’t the plex site still show it but let people know it’s not supported? Thank you again JaysPlex7!

I’m not sure what that means, but I did get help to reinstall plex for windows 7, so all is well again. What did you think I was about to do? even I am never sure what I’ll do next!

I suppose the point is:
Microsoft have stopped supporting Win 7 in January 2020, it’s no longer getting security updates and is therefore vulnerable. Ergo not a good choice to run a server

ok, I’m, not a paranoid person, I’d still run windows 3.11 and DOS on my computer, if it would work, because it just WORKED. I would be ok running windows 10 or 11 (I do have a computer with each of those on them, and HATE it.) but they force updates and I’m not ok with that… I still trust win7, and thanks to the first reply on here, I got plex working again. Now if you had info on how to make windows 10 not force updates, EVER that would be helpful.

Well, it’s your personal choice to think that using an outdated OS or skipping security updates is safe. Best of luck (honestly, you’ll need it).

In case anybody else reads this thread, looking forward similar use case… that’s a really bad idea and has nothing to do with „feeling secure/safe“ (or not wanting to seem paranoid).

thank you all that warn me about security, so no more warnings needed that I shouldn’t use windows 7. I would guess the biggest reason that microsoft no longer supports windows 7 is because there’s no longer money in it, they COULD support it, but not for $$$… so plz nobody needs to warn me to not use windows 7. Any of you could tell me how to go to windows 10 and not be forced to accept updates on THEIR terms, I leave my computer on 24/7 to run plex and other things, and forced updates annoy me to no end. Thanks people!

Use CentOS or Ubuntu.

I do have ubuntu on a computer, but my windows 7 computer has everything I need and want, the other computers I tolerate windows 10 to learn how to use things, and ubuntu to test out programs to see how to make them work there… but windows 7 does all I need, all I want… Microsoft pried all other windows out of my hands, to make certain things to work, like drives bigger than a few gigs, and a cam, but I’m still gonna wait til I have to before I cave and use windows 10, the thing I hate most is the forced updates that shut down my computer when I’m not there, but also the file sharing between my computers… let me decide what to share, Microsoft! Been doin it for years and no issues still… thanks for the help, sixxnet!

I know you aren’t a paranoid person, but running an OS that doesn’t support the latest internet security is kind of like putting all your money in a bag on a street corner and hoping no one will pick it up while you are getting coffee.

and by internet security I don’t mean updates from the OS manufacture.

@VTron21 user @NaughtyBear1 is a grown adult. Let them seal their fate by their own doom. They announced their intentions with great dire consequences for it. This isn’t the first nor the last time we will hear from the stubborn tech Luddites :man_facepalming:t2:

So you have an Ubuntu computer but refuse to use it?

You don’t need to convince me on what you’re doing. You’ve already done that for yourself.

I guess the bottom line is you’re not going to get the support here mate… @NaughtyBear1. Best look elsewhere.

This is to all of you who replied with snarky attitudes that I want to keep running plex and windows that still works great for me… I got the files thanks to JaysPlex7, and my plex is working fine for me. I don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars to upgrade my computer, and to windows 10 that sux donkey balls… Almost ALL of you were not kind or helpful, some were outright mean like I’m an idiot for wanting to use what works for me. Next time someone asks for help, maybe laugh to yourself thinking we’re idiots, and not make the Plex forums so unfriendly. If you had suggested I upgrade, fine, but to try to treat me like an idiot wasn’t nice, or helpful. Thank you JaysPlex7 for the links I needed!

You blamed Plex and pointed out, even wondering why Plex did not offer any previous releases of their apps. There’s a reason and unfortunately it was beyond tone deaf with you. Even AFTER clearly having individuals speak up and point out that not only does your reliance and operation on Windows 7 account for half the issue, Plex ALSO has made decisions NOT TO SUPPORT Windows 7 OS with their Plex Server builds. Why? Because there’s numerous security patches and other dependencies that just won’t work on Windows 7 unless you have an operating system that is compliant and meets their apps requirements. Plain and simple. Nearly ALL major apps have gone through this.

You asking for help and us providing the help wasnt the problem. It was more of the fact that it’s often EASIER to diagnose an issue when a CURRENTLY used OS and Plex Server and Client are provided by the user. Not something that no longer is supported, both by Plex and by Microsoft. It’s YOUR CHOICE but being NICE is also cut off when lots of us on the forum have understanding why upgrading is important and you neglect everything they have said.

The advice of using LINUX was the best choice but you didn’t take that advice either because you INSISTED that your current use of whatever you have installed, including your workflow, works for you. FINE, so be it. The problem with that attitude is and always has been is that the progressiveness of technology doesn’t wait for you. It consists of consistency of patches, updates and upgrades both hardware, firmware, and applications. Which should not be news to someone such as yourself. Period.

Plex have emailed and made announcements on this very forum of their security breaches and even their very own tokenized accounts that have been previously hacked with previously reported exploits that may have been tied to old Plex Server builds. You might want to READ and go through ALL the Plex Server release announcements to see what you’ve continued to allow or miss out in terms of security.

I also hate to be the one to say this but just because Plex works for you RIGHT NOW and might in 6 months, does not mean it will continue to work for you in 5 or 10 years, if you so wish to stay on Windows 7. Plex Server was intentionally designed to work with an internet connection and phone home to plex.tv servers. There is no change on that front. Use Kodi, Jellyfin, or Emby if you so wish.

Edit: @NaughtyBear1 I should also state I’m also in the same situation here with 2012 Mac Mini running obsolete Mac OS Catalina but I’m not as blinded by the obvious fact that I’ll have to find a solution or migrate to Linux because the days of support for my intel Mac minis are also numbered. My solution is using the same hardware 2012 Mac mini and either installing windows 11 or go Linux. I’m not so hardheaded as you though.

Hehehe! Yea, I’m hard headed, and KNOW I’ll have to change to the linux box or downgrade to windows 10 or 11, but just like I did with windows 98, I’ll hang on as long as I can. I know firefox did it’s last upgrades for win7, so I just stopped updating it for now. My point is still valid, a few of the folks here were not very kind, of course I’m stubborn, I’m old, but still nice to people. Thanks for your long reply, I want to get the last bit of life out of this old 8 core then I’ll go to a new OS, maybe there will be one that can still run all my favorite stuff.
