Program guide not streaming and DRM channels not accessible

Can anyone help with why my Program Guide does not give an option to stream current programs in the player but works fine in the server software? In the player, my only option for current programs is to record them. In the server, I can play them live.
Second, I’ve read others have problems viewing/recording their DRM Protected channels. Is there a solution for this yet?
Thank you in advance.

What hardware is your server and what hardware is your client? Not all clients support Live TV. Sounds like your server has a compatible client (plex web player?) and your client hardware is not supported.

This support article (linked to in the FAQ post near the top of the page for this forum section) lists compatible clients for Live TV: https://support.plex.tv/articles/115007689648-watching-live-tv/

It is extremely unlikely that there will ever be a solution to this. See these two threads for the reason(s) why:

I’ll go on the record as saying it will never work on Plex (I’m just a user but I’ve been doing “this”, recording cable TV and using MANY different media center/managers/boxes, for many many years).

I would like to expand on this as well… as @darcilicious said I too believe this will not happen.
Plex would need to write protected paths for the chain to make this happen.

In this case, the system I am using the player on is more powerful than the server. The player system is a Prime X370 board w/AMD Ryzen-5 1600, 16Gb RAM, Nvidia GeForce 1060 6Gb video, Windows 10 Pro-64bit, using Plex Player App. The server is an Asus MB w/AMD A10–7700K APU, 16Gb RAM, Radeon R7 internal graphics, Windows 10 Pro-64bit, using Plex Server software. 1-Gb local network, all CAT 6. All flow is on the LAN, no WAN play.

It’s not that either system can’t handle the playback. But where the playback icon normally is, it’s replaced on the player system with a record icon only. For example, on the server each of the “On Right Now” TV Show graphics have the play icon in the center and the record icon at the bottom. On the player system, only the record icon exists and it is located in the center.

I hope I clarified this issue a little better as I realize I may not have originally explained the issue is only with “On Right Now” TV and Movies in the Program Guide only. All recorded files play flawlessly.

Any ideas?

Plex player in Windows doesn’t support live tv yet. In Windows you would have to use the web interface, the only drm support I know would be the silicondusts homerun app in windows. My guess is plex if they ever get it would be a long ways away. Silicondust has spent over a year getting it approved in their app

Thank you! I will just continue to use my HDHomeRun Prime software to view live TV as it only uses LAN bandwidth. I appreciate your help.

Glad to help

Yes, the links I posted listed the clients that support Live TV, did you read that?

Right after the last player update, the problem is solved. The Windows player now supports live play. Thank you all for your help.
