Program Guide UI Issues

Program Guide UI - needs a channel vs time table like most cable and sat tv providers use. Right now it is more Netflix like.

Program Guide UI and libraries… Need to have channel listed with the recording. No channel seems to be associated so I cant figure out where the recording came from (troubleshooting)

Program guide showing old info - I removed a number of channels, and they are still showing up in the guide. How do we clear out info for deselected channels?

I second the request for this option. The time style guide should be a configurable option.

Adding support for the traditional Interactive Programming Guide (IPG). I really like the way it presents now, but it does not work well for some items, namely sports, special events or incorrectly/unscheduled events.

Mandatory requirement channel vs time table.

Agreed. It needs to be able to show at least all shows upcoming in the next few days, so we can browse to see what’s on. At the moment, I have to check another TV guide and then do a search for the particular show.

I think when I removed a bunch of channels, it triggered a re-download of the EPG again. After the download completes, if you go back in, the deleted channels no longer show up.

Another vote here for the channel vs time table (traditional). I can sort the given type of view mentally when I’m looking for something specific, like on netflix, but for scheduled shows, I’m firmly entrenched in the old guide style in a table.

old channels stayed in even after I forced refresh of the EPG. I ended up reinstalling to fix

Keep in mind that there is a software patent on the traditional grid guide, and my understanding is that the patent holder’s licensing terms are pretty onerous. Silicon Dust opted not to license for the HDHomeRun DVR due to the cost/restrictions, as well as the apparently hostile attitude of company.

Another vote for channel vs time table. I need to be able to search by channel or time. Maybe there’s a show I haven’t seen or thought of and Plex can’t read my mind, so I can never find it unless I browse the traditional guide.

The information might not have to be shown in a time/channel format, but I would like to be able to search for a channel and have all the shows for the next few weeks show up in the resulting list.

Or be able to punch in a time and have it display all the shows at that time.

HMMM… I have seen the grid used in a bunch of things…

I did find that there is an EPG patent, but don’t know if it applies to this… However, it looks like it is either expired or due to expire soon.

So I have a TABLO device, and I am so very happy that Plex is doing this (I can’t wait to migrate to my NAS). What is important for the wife factor (I learned this long ago) is “what new shows are this week?” Not all show, but new episodes, etc… Then she can pick what to record etc.

+1 on the request for traditional EPG grid layout. As I understand, this is patented by Rovi?

i think the patent was invalidated

When Netflix won their suit against Rovi last year, it only won against 5 of the 1500 patents Rovi holds.
So to say their patent is invalidated isn’t the whole story.

REF: Netflix nukes Rovi’s “we own TV guide” patents | Ars Technica

rovi does not have 1500 epg patents.

Several other companies have won against rovi…

Also, the epg patent is due to expire soon from what I have read

Would be Nice, it also is not picking up Supernatural when I know it is available.

Recorded my first two shows yesterday. Nice… Except they didn’t record what the guide listed… :frowning:

DVR Beta Program GUIDE , noticed that it will randomly show only the first occurrence of a show/movie if its being displayed at multiple times it doesn’t show each occurrence of said item. Also would be nice to see real TV-GUIDE type listing vs sorted by what categories and filtering out channels for some reason. I see items in my tuner tv-guide that don’t show in plex programming guide. Listing by DATE & Channel as options?
