Proposal for Enhancing Plex User Interface with AI and Innovative Features

Enhancing Plex User Interface with AI and Innovative Features**

Dear Plex Community and Team,

As one of the original Plex users (customer #1,2000) and a lifetime member, I have witnessed the platform’s evolution and have built a substantial media library, as have many other users. While I am thoroughly impressed with the server capabilities and the array of features Plex offers, I believe there is a significant area for improvement—the user interface.

Currently, mainstream platforms such as Apple, Kaleidescape, Netflix, and even some Kodi plugins have surpassed Plex in terms of user interface design and ease of use. It’s high time Plex addressed this gap with a more robust and intuitive interface, especially in an era where AI can greatly enhance user experience.

Why an Improved Interface is Essential:

  1. Ease of Use:
Users should be able to effortlessly navigate and sort through their extensive libraries of movies, TV shows, videos, and music. Simplifying the user journey to find and play content is crucial for maintaining Plex’s competitive edge.

  2. Enhanced User Experience with AI:
Integrating AI could revolutionize the way users interact with Plex. For example, Kaleidescape adapts its interface based on user selections, displaying related content to enhance viewing options. Implementing a similar AI-driven recommendation system would not only improve user satisfaction but also encourage more engagement.

  3. Inspiration from Competitors:
Apple’s seamless and visually appealing interface is a great example of how a well-designed UI can significantly enhance user experience. Borrowing elements from such leading platforms can provide valuable insights into creating a more engaging and efficient interface for Plex users.

Proposed Features:

  1. AI-Powered Recommendations:
Introduce a recommendation engine that suggests content based on user preferences and viewing history. This could be a premium feature, providing an additional revenue stream as users might be willing to pay for enhanced personalization.

  2. Dynamic Interface Adjustments:
Allow the interface to dynamically adjust based on the type of content being viewed. For instance, displaying related movies, series, or genres when a user selects a particular title.

  3. Streamlined Navigation:
Simplify the navigation menu to reduce the number of clicks needed to reach desired content. This could include customizable shortcuts, genre-based sorting, and quick access to recently viewed or favorite titles.

  4. Enhanced Search Functionality:
Improve the search algorithm to provide more accurate results and suggestions as users type, similar to what is available on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

In conclusion, focusing on the user interface will not only set Plex apart from competitors but also significantly enhance the overall user experience. By integrating AI and borrowing successful elements from platforms like Kaleidescape and Apple, Plex can continue to be a leader in media server technology.

I hope this suggestion is received in the innovative spirit intended and contributes to the ongoing improvement of Plex.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

It would be nice to see the UI for media from server match what’s available for Movies & Shows on plex. I find when I open my home it’s lacluster for browsing my media with only the recently added, two genres, and a director. Meanwhile if you head over to Movies and Shows on plex you are meet with a bunch of fun catagories such as that’s so 90’s, crime-time, based on a true story, etc. Overall the UI is functional but most of the time I don’t want to scroll through my whole library while trying to decide what to watch.

I completely agree with you on this. With the advent of Ai sure the Plex algorithm could come up with much more suitable choices based on browsing and media watched perviously. For my 2 cents the UI needs a major overall
