PS4 App Controls?

I think there are a lot of criticisms of the new version of the PS4 app (it’s slower, it crashes a lot), but putting these all aside… y’all changed the controls, and it’s extremely frustrating. Some of the controls moved, and I found those after a lot of frustration, but some of them seem to have been removed.

Namely:

  • Quick Jump (10s back/30s forward) changed from L1/R1 to Left/Right on the directional pad, and L1/R1 is now Seek. (It’s never fun to want to go back ten seconds and go back fifteen minutes before I realize what happened.)
  • Start/Options used to play whatever content was selected in the menu (instead of going to its episode/show page), as well as pause/resume a video during playback. Square has taken some of these duties, except it will not pause a video during playback. (So far as I can tell, there is no longer a quick pause button.) Now instead, Start/Options is the “goddamnit” button, because every time I try to pause a video, it goes to the home screen. And every time I try to start a video from the selection screen, it goes to the home screen. If I’m on the home screen already, it doesn’t even seem to refresh the page (e.g., to update the On Deck list).

This is partially me kvetching, because… y’all, I’ve used this app nearly every day for years, and these remappings lack rhyme or reason, and are just making me more frustrated on top of how much slower and more unstable this new version is. But if I have to get used to these new mappings, can you at least list them all out somewhere? Am I missing the quick pause button, for example?

that annoyed me as i caught the button on the d-pad, then the app crashed when i tried to “rewind” it back 10 minutes…

and also if i leave it on pause long enough for the “bar” to disapear, when i press anything to resume it takes me off the actual video then have to wait good 40 seconds for it to start working again or crash completely!
