Confused by Controls on 2.4.19

So I’ve read the release notes (pasted below), but I’m having a lot of issues with the new control scheme. I really wish there was a way you could turn it on/off because I will accidentally bump controller and skip ahead 10 minutes.

My seemingly simple problem: what button on PS4 controller = Play? I’ve tried them all and the closest I can get is X, which seems to be pause. I want some way to show OSD (to show time remaining) without doing anything or pausing.

  • Play: show the OSD
  • Pause, seek, fast forward, rewind: perform their action and show he full OSD
  • Left: seek back 10s and show a light OSD
  • Right: seek forward 30s and show a light OSD
  • Up: seek forward 10minutes and show a light OSD
  • Down: seek backward 10 minutes and show a light OSD
  • Although it took a bit of habit breaking to get used to the lightweight controls we hope you’ll like it as much as we do.

Any help here?

You’re right, the PS4 has no button for Play.

We’re taking about supporting the X button to show the OSD w/o pausing.

I think it’s a super logical change. Pausing video to see the OSD isn’t a huge deal although personally I would rather see the X button show the OSD without pausing.

Exactly. I would really like an option to do this-- otherwise I have no way of knowing how much time is left in a movie/show without having to pause it, which is more disruptive. Or potentially give us the option to switch/modify control schemes–even better.

Is the PS4 controller similar to the PS3 controller? I would prefer the select button on the PS3 controller to bring up the OSD

Well, there’s no “select” on the PS4 controller, but there is an “options” button (and AFAIK it doesn’t do anything under current Plex settings) which would suit me just fine for pulling up OSD w/o pausing playback, though I agree w/Matt that the X button makes more sense. Or maybe the big touchpad button (“start”?)

The forward and back buttons are pretty crazy now too.
Accidentally hitting the analog stick and jumping forward 10 minutes is a huge nuisance. The analog stick should do nothing but bring up the OSD. Use the directional buttons to seek forward and back.
