We are working with Sony to add support for 4K playback in PS4 Pro,

Based on the documentation that I have seen 4K playback support will be limited to AVC encoded content Profile High Level 5.1 at 26Mbits/s.

we still have to test it using the actual device but it doesn’t look like we will be getting MKV or HEVC (h265) support.

Any updates?

We have been having major issues with Sony’s platform updates. After PS4 Pro support was added the platform got extremely buggy to the point where we couldn’t even consider releasing an update based on them. They released an update last week which seems to be more stable than the ones before, we will try and get an update out based on that soon, but we are still talking sometime in May and that’s if we don’t run into another blocking bug in the new update.

I understand that’s not something you guys want to hear, but unfortunately that’s all I got.

Keep up the good work!

Hey Kay, we appreciate you! Any update?

Hey Plex,
I run a game dev studio here in the UK, and have close contacts with in SIEA’ R&D team, in fact those who are responsible for the Media Player, I had a chat with them yesterday re: MKV support… They said there is a way you CAN implement native MKV playback, ping me we should talk.

Did you reach out to them Stewart, if you have the credentials to back up what you are saying?

Out to who? PLEX?

Google me “Stewart Gilray” I think it’s fair to say I have the credentials

Any update on this yet? Appreciate it.

Any news??

Bumping this thread again since there has been no update for a while. Would love to hear what in the works at the very least.

The lack of feedback is concerning. They mentioned an update back in May and that never materialized. No update has been given since.

So if I’m correct, it’s Sony that’s holding things back? The lack of 4k support for the Pro is pretty sad. The YouTube and Netflix apps don’t seem to support 4k. Their media player doesn’t support HEVC/h.265 either. They only support h.264, which is pretty odd since it’s a 2k codec, not a 4k codec. I’m guessing all this is the reason we don’t have HEVC/h.265 support in Plex on the PS4 Pro.

Edit: Meant to say 4k/HDR above for Netflix and YouTube on the Pro.

Yes they do, which is why right after I wrote that I followed up with a post to clarify what I meant to say (since I can’t edit my post for some reason). They don’t support 4k HDR.

It’s been 153 days since the last update. did plex give up? kay.one was last active on the forum June 29, did he leave the company? is there no one pushing for ps pro support at plex anymore? is there anyone at the company even looking at the forums anymore?

I think i’m ready to call plex abandoned on playstation and recommend people find alternatives

I’d like to see the new DVR / Live TV feature on PS4 Plex. It’s football season and I just got my HDHomerun! (So I can watch the home runs this football season?)

The pace of PS4 development leads me to believe there must be a smaller user base. Seems like kay.one was stretched between platforms and may be the only developer on them. I bet the more popular platforms have small teams.

Hopefully kay.one is still on the job! Otherwise, please prioritize the PS4 platform Plex!

I’m furiously waiting for any update as well. I guess I’m pretty darn close to call it a quit as well. PS system update 5.0 is just around the corner though. I will wait if there will be any update after 5.0 is released, or at the very least any communications from Plex on what the plan is moving forward.

As of today the PS4 pro only supports 1080p video. I have several h264 encoded 4k videos that get transcoded to 1080p. Can we get an update on the PS4 player status?
