QuadHD PMS Build fix (ONLY FOR QUADHD)

Perfect, both of you guys should be ready to go. We’ll let you know when we have a build you can test.

Yeah, that’s pretty much what I have on my system. I personally went with updating the kernel, as I wasn’t too keen on the idea of patching an old kernel. To both of you above with the QuadHD on Linux, did you also just drop in the firmware from OpenELEC?

The quadHD 1609 didn’t require a firmware file in my case. Digging around Hauppauge docs, I’m pretty sure that device doesn’t require an external firmware to load. (Not that it can’t be given one, but it worked stock out-of-the-box.)

I just ran the hauppage repo and manually added the two missing firmware files by googling. Not very sophisticated, but it works.

Agree kernel upgrade should be better.

Ready for Plex goodness when it arrives.

do you need a dmesg output or anything?

Nope, we know what the issue is, thanks though! We’re aiming to have a test build in the next few days.

agreed, thank you!

Thank you devs for supporting the QuadHD

We have a fix in place for the QuadHD, which will be in the next PMS release, but I wanted to put it on the forums here as well, for everyone who’s using a QuadHD under Windows and wanting to use it with Plex.

@keithah not sure if you want it reported here, but I’m seeing “Device not found. Ensure your device is powered on and connected to your network.” in my DVR settings now.

It looks like it’s still working despite the error, or at least I can play Live TV from my iPhone. I’m testing a recording now to see if that’s still working. Will update this post once that’s done.

Also, not sure if it’s relevant / matters, but I’m running NextPVR on the same server. I prioritized the tuners in NextPVR as 4, 3, 2, 1 and only added the first of the two tuners detected to Plex (thinking that might be 1 and 2 on the card), but any idea whether NextPVR and Plex can run in parallel against the same tuner card?

Update Yep, recording still works despite the error.

We’ve seen a few reports of that. Can you post all your PMS logs? (Settings>Help>Download Logs) so we can review? Thanks!

We are not sure we can do much on tuner coexistence with other apps. It’s something we lab on investigating further but right now we suggest dedicating a tuner to Plex.

So far it seems to be working the way I have it set up, but I’ll tinker a bit more to see whether using both apps at the same time causes any issues (although I figure the error that I mentioned might be one issue).

I mostly use NextPVR for the grid view (which looks like it’s been discussed a bit in another thread or two) and watching TV from a PC or Apple TV. Assuming Plex is stable & once the web / Apple TV clients are updated, I won’t really need NextPVR… Although I’d still like a grid or calendar view of some sort.

Yep… You really want all of 'em, or just a specific set?

I got a few others logs now, seems mainly with the QuadHD, so no worries, I’ll ask if we need another set. Thanks though!

I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread as well, to see when the linux version that supports QuadHD is released. Thanks for all of your efforts on this, keithah

It works for me so far. Thanks

Maybe someone can help me out on this. Am I not able to install the Quad Card into my Plex Server and use it? I have to have a separate computer with the card or other tuner that my linux plex server will connect to?

This build ONLY helps QuadHD users who couldn’t find a tuner. Do not bother to install if you don’t have a QuadHD

Downloading now. Thanks! Will update you on my testing.

Edit: so far, so good! scanning channels now…set up a recording. Let’s see how it goes.

Looks good - scanning channels now. Setup is 1609 on centos 7 upgraded to 4.10 kernel (and actually running in an LXC container  ).

As best I can tell, working for me on Ubuntu 14.04 (trusty) – using the Hauppauge mediatree kernel meant for Ubuntu 16.04 (xenial), from b-rad’s PPA, via the sources.list.d hack I mentioned above. It has scanned the channels and is recording, transcoding on the fly works, looks good. Awesome work, folks! Now on to live TV playback on vanilla-Android and Fire TV…

So…

The only weirdness is the fact that the quadHD shows up as 2 tuner devices, but that’s an expected artifact of the cx23885 hardware: it’s a 2-tuner chipset, and two of those chipsets are on the card. To get use of all four tuners, I have to add both tuner pairs, one at a time, and do a full channel scan and EPG setup on each. (Though this could mean easy coexistence with other software, if I wanted Plex to use 2 tuners and some other software to use the other pair.)

It might be useful to be able to designate a device as part of a group of tuners which all use the same configuration. That way they could be pooled to only have one instance of channel list and EPG. Then again, maybe it’s useful for some configurations – for instance, if the first tuner pair is always preferred, that could be set to transcode while the second tuner pair isn’t (to save CPU when 3+ programs are recording).

For me, the updated linux build worked and it found both tuners for the quad, but it didnt find nearly as many channels as the xbox usb tuner. I’m running ubuntu 16.04 with the hauppauge kernel.
