Not finding my Hauppauge Quad Tuner Card

Drivers all installed and showing correctly in modules loaded and plex is discovering it in the logs, but won’t allow me to ‘add it’ ( not showing)

Si2168 IS the quad tuner which is listed as supported. How do I force it to support it.

where exactly?

https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/225877427-Supported-DVR-Devices-and-Antennas

It was listed… hence others having a few questions listed, but it’s been removed from the page.

I bought it as it was listed and was PCIe as opposed to USB as it’s running on a dell poweredge server.

Quite clearly listing the QuadHD…

I went with it as it has 4 tuners, so a family of 4 shouldn’t really be able to complain…

the joys of day 1 adoption… it currently doesnt work for shares or managed users either.

Yeah, I got excited when I saw it was using/allowing devices other than the HDHomeRun, which is a bit of non-entity in the UK. One of the two listed distributors for them on their website, doesn’t even sell them, and they are damned expensive compared.

There is no real reason for the implementation of the Hauppauge devices not working… I mean, all the drivers and firmware is there, they’ve just decided to ‘block’ certain devices from working, rather than allow me to enable it on the basis that it might not work correctly.

I mean they’ve bothered to implement the system that has detected it exists, yet they’ve then added a feature to block it

DVR:Grabber: Ignoring (Silicon Labs Si2168) which is an unsupported tuner device.

I think there is a known issue for this card, but support for it should be coming in a forthcoming PMS release (I don’t want to say a version or date, because I’m not 100% sure, but it will be soon!)

I’d like to hear something from Plex, as it had been listed as supported.

I saw they were aware of a problem with the ATSC (american) card, but maybe they didn’t realise the DVB card for rest of the world, uses a different chip?

It is supported and we’ve done extensive testing with it, in both ATSC and DVB forms.

However, there’s 2 versions of the same card. So two different models for America and two different models for DVB. We only knew about one of them, so we’ve added the second now, and the next server release will have the fix.

@keithah - Is there any indication as to when the next plex pass release will be?

Thanks,

Within the next few weeks, hopefully sooner.

For what it’s worth, getting this card working under Linux isn’t the easiest thing to do ever. I have one, and got it working with MythTV a while back - I had to hack in some firmware file and dink around with settings and such in order to get it to work while spewing plenty of errors into my system log on every boot.

I was so fired up when I saw that Plex was going to support this tuner, hope they do it soon!

Any guesses from anyone as to which of these work? (New Zealand Region). I could just get the newer one as a guess, but the older one is actually a lot cheaper for me (I get a discounted price).

Well, I bought the Model 1629 (second link). So will see how that goes, if not I hope Plex are true to their word about it only being a couple of weeks away - they’re pretty good at rolling updates out so good chance I guess!

I went with installing a newer kernel and just adding in the firmware files, as opposed to hacking in the drivers into an older kernel. Seems to work. Discovers it. I don’t really want MythTV as you can’t install it without a GUI (all the setup screens are on the backend but with a gui).

I’m pretty pleased so far, especially as it’s running as a passthrough PCI device on an ESXi running server with CentOS as the VM running Plex.

As and when plex rolls out the next update, I’ll let you know whether I get it running through this virtualised system. I think it’s a pretty interesting setup. Not that I encourage anyone to run plex off a 16 core server… Unless you are using for other things too, as it’s a bit over the top and costs a bomb in electricity.

Hauppauge made it much easier (at least for Ubuntu users) so it should be drop in kernel support now.

I’m hoping to have a test release specifically for the QuadHD issue earlier than the next scheduled release as well, maybe as soon as next week.

That would be helpful for people who just bought the card and only have 30 days to return if it does not work.

@ellenby are you saying you got Plex recognising a previously non-supported quad hd card by upgrading the kernel? I thought even if it was all working in Linux, plex still needed to have some changes made?

Thanks.
