After years of running ATVPlex, lately on 5.0.2, finally took the plunge tonight and upped to v6 and PlexConnect. It's really great, and I appreciate all the work that's gone into it.
The only thing that I really miss is the ability to quickly toggle between the All and Unwatched lists, especially when viewing TV shows (used to do this by swapping view tabs on the top with left/right presses). It's quite a few steps in PC, with some loading pauses in between.
Is there any chance getting something akin to that back would be possible? I'm not sure if maybe there's a technical limitation now that you're using the vanilla UI, or if it's just a result of the different view hierarchy you've gone with.
LibrarySection -> All/OnDeck/Unwatched -> Show -> Episode. So yes, when toggling watched/unwatched you have to climb up, then browse your way down again...
How was this in the native client?
Like LibrarySection -> Show -> Episode -> All/Unwatched?
Yeah, it's the climbing up and down that's the pain point.
In the native client, all of the list views had filter headers at the top. I think they were something like "All Episodes | Unwatched | Other Filters". So when you were looking at this:
All Episodes | Unwatched | Other Filters
• 4. Episode name
• 5. Other episode
• 6. Etc. etc.
...and hit left on the controller, it swapped instantly to this:
All Episodes | Unwatched | Other Filters
1. Thing title
2. Title thingy
3. Blah blah
• 4. Episode name
• 5. Other episode
• 6. Etc. etc.
Super handy for when you and your family members are watching the same show, but at different rates. :)

Ah yeah I remember this.
Bear in mind that if you have a Plexpass you can have individual watched status', although we do not really have a fast user switching in place yet.

Interesting! I didn't know about the individual status thing; might be a step toward solving the problem from a different angle for us, but I still think quickly checking your watched episodes while you're in the Unwatched view is pretty great.
Hey John, I am not trying to say this should not be further looked at but:
If you go in to all episodes you can see:
- how many eps have not been watched in each season at series level - at season level you can, in list view (not coverflow) see how many unmatched episodes are in each season - at episode level of each season there are indicators of watched/unmatched next to each episode (blue dot for unwatched)
To my mind this shows you everything the filters do but without having to press anything or am I missing something (bear in mind you may need to tweak the TV settings in the GUI)?
Yep, I totally get what you're saying, but here's the root of my perspective: For speed/efficiency/visual-clutter reasons, it's really important to be able to stay under the Unwatched branch by default — this'll be where most people would browse their TV shows the vast majority of the time, I'd imagine.
But when you're in there, all of those watched episodes, which seem so close — they're right above me in this list! — are actually about 30 seconds of navigation away. And then of course you need to traverse all the way back to where you were under the Unwatched tree to get back to "normal".
I totally realize this isn't something everyone does all the time, and not at all suggesting it needs to be a feature or anything. Just thought I'd point it out as a point of slight frustration, coming from the native client. :)
Did you find the "scrobble" menu on the episodes already? Press and hold select... it should give you a menu "go to show". I am not really sure, but that should push you into the show/"all" section. Give it a try... though the way back still stays tough :-)
I went looking for that, and I don't think I found it — I can't get anything to pop up on any screen when holding Select, except for the mark-as-watched/unwatched thing — but while trying to figure that out, noticed that all of a show's episodes are listed in the horizontal thumbnail view at the bottom of the episode pre-play screen, even if you got there by way of the Unwatched hierarchy.
So that actually isn't a bad solution at all to what I was concerned with; I can stay in Unwatched, but pretty quickly see the rest when necessary.
(It does have a sort of weird view stacking if you move around in there, though: If you select an episode from the horizontal thumbnails, then select another one, then hit Back/Menu, you end up just back one pre-play screen, instead of back at the vertical episode list as I think would be typical in this UX structure. But that's a minor detail. :) )
I am curious to know if there's another thing that I'm missing here and haven't found yet — where exactly do you hold Select to get this Go To Show menu?
>> where exactly do you hold Select to get this Go To Show menu?
Good question...
I am pretty sure it works after a Search - in the Search results list on the Episodes.
I guess, it also works in the OnDeck view...
It might (should? maybe not implemented?) work in those Episode lists as well (after all, if it shows the mark watched/unwatched, it could just add the link to the top layer. But then, is it really neccessary if you just could press Menu?).
Well, more questions than answers... sorry for that. :-D
