I have been running Plex on a DS415Play for the last 3 years and other than a few niggles it has proved to be a great combination. However I now want to upgrade and despite reading through lots of earlier questions, I’m still not entirely clear as to what the advantages/disadvantages are of the above 3 models.
Looking at the compatibility list, they all seem to be able to do exactly the same thing however what has thrown me is the section on Hardware Transcoding that says “Plex Pass & 64-bit required”. I didn’t think that any hardware transcoding was possible through Plex and that this only worked using DS video?
The DS918+ is more expandable (I am guessing that more memory might help) and therefore could be a good bet and I don’t really see the point of the DS418Play unless I am missing something fundamental.
I want this to be a good investment for the next few years so want to make the right choice but it seems there are too many choices to make!
If anyone can provide a quick and simple “go with DSxxx because”, I’d be very grateful.
