Hi Guys,

 

I've been playing with the new multi-user features on the plex server and they seem fantastic!

 

No more will my house mates mess up my watched status on new tv shows!!!

 

We each have our own Plex Mediacenter installs on our desktops but what would be fantastic is profiles for the shared machines.

Maybe if we could have a main menu item for switch user.

The ability to setup a 4 digit pin to unlock a user account on a machine that's previously been signed into?

this would mean that when I'm in the lounge I can use my profile without needing to use a keyboard to sign in with my email and password. I then get my watched status etc. When my house mate is in the lounge he can switch to his profile.

PLEASE this feature would be amazing, and could be the first step in parental controls!

This is possible with the RARFlix Roku client and I have to say it is great. The problem is that I now hate that my iOS and Samsung clients don't have this... It would be really handy on an iPad that is shared or on a Samsung TV / Blueray that obviously shared.

I found a fix to this problem in windows.

I've just created a second OS account and have an install of plex HT for each user. The users then have a simple numerical password which can be typed in with the number pad.

not perfect but it works.

Or like Plex competition, MediaBrowser3, has it. Local and quick to switch accounts. This is what I thought the Multi User was like, when subscribing to plexpass.

Plex could also implement a simple "who's watching" at the bottom of a show before you click play.  That way my girlfriend and I (who often watch at the same time) could just check both of our names and click play, or just check whomever is watching that day and click play, without the need to change logins.
