SO… I have been doing an audit on my system checking HD’s files inside and backing up media for the past at least 4-5 Days. While the machine was encoding a Movie and probably 2 people streaming, the system was kinda showing signs of hanging but it was operational. The files opened on plex, but there was like a delay during execution.
I came upstairs to see my download folder had random htlm file, no big size, just 1kb.
NO downloads in the BG of the system, no other tasks being processed.
Ran a tests, encoded a file and streamed at the same time and put my CPU to work, and noticed that if ONLY if plex was hanging or slow, it would Not show anything on the browser, and once i refreshed the browser Boom, html file on downloads folder. The issue with the non working http://127.0.0.1:32400 would resolve itself by closing the browser and re opening it.
Its not something common and the only Programs installed are MKVTool/Handbreak/PMS/vlc and media info.
Again this file is EMPTY inside, no code, no nothing. Has anyone experienced anything similar?
Release 22.04.4 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish) 64-bit
Plex Version 1.40.2.8395
Afternoon, the file name is random like small name for example prior to deletion was PlxUj,html something along those lines.
“Gah. Your tab just crashed. We can help! Choose Restore This Tab to reload the page.”
The tab crash or slow down happens whenever media is being added or backed up via the system (not through plex) the plex executions still operates normally. Html files havent shown up in the past 2 or 3 days (including today) so far.
UPDATE: I did a LOT of troubleshooting trying to replicate the issue and it seems that is not related 100% with plex, but with the actually interface on Firefox.
I connected this to plex, because it only happened when i was Using Browser with Firefox to manage it. It didn’t use to do this prior to me updating though… However, since i was clicking on a movie, then back, then chose a different one apparently when its LOADING the information on the the tab/browser, it caused a crash on firefox, which created the html file with a random name.
I had the console open 100% while testing and it happened again.
SO it is possible that after the update the GUI for the browser isn’t playing nice with PMS.
I -pkilled the browser and re opened it and its back fully operational.
After poking throughout the entire library it happened 2 more times and the trigger is the back and forth between the media and the loading.
If Firefox’s tab Crashes, it will create the random file.
I have found a link to a post dated 2years back on redit, but I will not post it to stay within the compliance of the forum (im unaware if i can share it or not since its an external site).
If anyone would like to see the statements made on some of the posts, please google “firefox creating a crash html”.
Hope this information helps everyone or at least help discard the troubleshooting.
I agree, it was just a link to what i stated as a search. Really wanted to confirm that it wasnt plex related…other than it getting laggy and stuck using firefox during click back and foward re adding the posters that keep getting changed. But yes. SO others dont think it would/wouldnt be malicious i wanted to discard the plex theory for its creation. Godbless Peeps.
