I run plex via the web app. And out of nowhere, my access is denied to my desktop server files. I have the android app as well, which I ran into this problem when I first used the app, but I was able to change my app permissions to fix it then. This time, I was listening to music and boom, no more access. Nobody else uses my server. I tried to follow these instructions, but I got stuck on the first step (T_T). I can’t find HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server.
What exactly do you mean by “access is denied to desktop server files”?
I’m confused if this is about the server no longer being able to access your files or if you’re no longer able to access the server through its web interface (and other apps?).
What kind of app permissions did you change (and where)?
This is what I see when I try to access “DESKTOP-…”:
The app permissions I mentioned for the android app, are in the phone’s settings that either grant or deny access to the phone’s files, location, camera, etc. When I first installed the plex app, the permissions to access my phone’s media and files had been denied. This caused the same issue I am having now on my desktop. But, once I granted access to the files and media on my phone, I was again, authorized to access the server on my desktop. It’s probably not relevant to my current problem. However, I am still able to access this server through the app on my phone.
Ok. The android app permissions should only impact the options to actually access local media from within Plex. That’s not related to accessing the content of your server.
As for the specific issue…
Do you experience this behavior on your own server?
When you write “and boom, no more access”… did this happen during the playback of some of your media?
I’m not sure what you describe requires the instructions linked in your OP; however if you want to try the procedure, make sure you’re performing the Registry tasks on the machine running your Plex Media Server, while being signed into the device with the account that’s actually running the server.
