Rasplex and Synology DS412+

Hi Folks,

so i have set up the Plex Media Server on my DS412+ and a Rasplex for my TV, all connected over Gigabit LAN.

All my 720p Movies run perfectly smoth even with 5.1 Souround, but all 1080p Movies are lagging and stopping every 20 Seconds or so.

So i read some Topic that the ds412+ with its AtomProcessor is not capable of transcoding the Videofiles and that is the point that i dont understand. Why is there any transconding needed? All my Movies are 1080p mkv files (yeah i know its a container format) and i play them on a FullHD TV. The funny thing is the DLNA Client from my Samsung TV can stream all 1080p Files without any Lags.

Can someone explain me where the Problem is? Maybe i have something set up wrong.

Kind regards

don

did you try to enable direct play?

Regardless of whether you are transcoding or direct playing, there are issues with high-bitrate movies so that's where I would look into.

In my case, anything with more than 10Mbps is unplayable.

Reading in the forums, it seems that some users were able to fix it but changing the overclocking settings (for me that resulted in turning temporarily the Pi into a brick :), but it's probably because I did something stupid in the process).

Thanks for the answers

i have read that too, i will give it a try.

Thx so far, i will report back

I have pretty much the same setup as you. My Pi cannot handle 1080p (have not tried overclocking). I transcode all movies to 720 height i.e 720p mp4s and all plays fine. Above that the problem starts.

I have the same setup, enable direct play and overclock the system! My Pi plays 1080p mkv without any hiccups!

Here is a link for overclocking settings; https://forums.plexapp.com/index.php?/topic/83756-Overclocking---Great-results-and-config.txt and for better performance you also can start from a USB!
