over the weekend I got a raspberry pi. I was full of expectation.
At first I installed rasplex for sure :-) First I have to say, it looks really good, I like it, including features like Airplay, using the Plexapp for iOS as remote. Great job!
I'm using a Syno DS412+ NAS (Intel Atom 2x 2,1) for PMS. Videos up to 720p workss fine! Video of 1080p are stuttering, not as bad as in the Iphone Plexapp, but still not watchable.
Is it a trancoding issue like in the iOS app?
Any issues regarding codec?
Guys, do have any idea to get 1080p running in my enviroment?
@dev: Will 1080p in connection with NAS possible in the future?
Btw, with my Samsung UE55D7000 installed Plex 1080p is no problem.

your NAS is too slow to convert the 1080p video.
If it's H.264 you'll want to buy the RasPi H.264 codec license, if some other codec you going to need to manually transcode the video to H.264 yourself (or just run your PMS on something with a powerful enough CPU to do what you are trying to do)
On a sidenote, thanks to this thread I finally found out why Rasplex would only play audio from a .ts file. I had no idea I needed an MPEG-2 license. At least they are cheap.
1080p + DTS = sometimes working and sometimes not - it is confusing me
Where does the stuttering comes from? Could DTS be the cause?
Since you mentioned that there is no noticeable load on the CPU, it looks like Direct Play is already enabled, meaning that the NAS is simply serving the file to the Pi. (Mind that it would not be able to transcode a 1080p file, only the very high end Synology models can).
Is it always the same file that gives you trouble or it is random? What is the bitrate of the files you are trying to play? My Rasplex plays almost everything, but it sometimes gets stuck on Blu-ray remuxes with a high bitrate (at least 25/30 Mbit/s).
DTS should not be a problem, but on Rasplex settings, try to uncheck "DTS capable receiver". The player will then convert the audio to AC3.
BTW, did you try a 1080p file which does not have DTS?
I'm running a Pi powered by a standard Blackberry charger. Same model as your machine (the one with 512 MB Ram). Not overclocked.
Now I increased the cache of pi to 30%, it seems to be running better. I have to check if it is solved.. Could the cache be the root cause?
When you say stuttering you mean that you are dropping frames (you can check during playback by pressing the 'I' key on the keyboard or the Return button on a samsung remote? Or Playback stops and restarts after a few seconds?
If the latter, increasing the cache duration should help indeed. If you're dropping frames, the Pi is not able to keep up with the bitrate.
I will check if I have a file with a similar setting and try, because I tend to watch high bitrate stuff on a different TV which has a Mac Mini as a player, but 12 Mbps should not be a problem..
Yesterday I started wachting a movie with bit rate of 14Mbps and it was playing quite well. It seems to me that increasing the cache to 30% solved my problem.
