RasPlex caching

Hello,

Would you mind explaining how the caching mechanism currently works.
Does it only cache in memory, or does it actually cache on the filesystem.
Reason for asking is that I usually turn off all my devices when I am not at home.

I personally would not mind using a large(r) SD card if that would result in having a filesystem cache.

Cheers,

Since RasPlex uses only about 1.5GB of your SD-Card, it would not benefit from using a larger one. Invest some money to get a fast Class 10 card and everything should be fine.

Thanks, I already have a Class 10 card. I just wanted to understand in depth how the caching works, and whether power cycling has any influence, which it would have if some of the caching is done in memory.

hi

i'm interested in caching mechanisme too

how many movies can be hold in the cache ? is it possible to extend it ?

The caching mechanism grabs images from PMS ans stored them locally on the SD.

Then it will load them from SD instead of from PMS.

Thus having a fast SD (class 10) will help performance a lot.

Caching uses usually less than a hundred megabytes on a reasonable library. so even with a common 4Gb SD, you should be fine.
