I like it with rerouted power and IR receiver. You should reroute the HDMI as well to have all cables on the back... Why not make the case slightly larger and include a 240-120/5 V power supply? A small front led to indicate the on state could be good as well (GPIO connected). This way it will really look like an ATV :)
How do you reroute the power? internal micro usb connector? does this means the case is actually longer than a normal case?
What is the receiver used? Where is it placed in the case?
Be sure to choose a 3.3V one, include a limiting resistor and maybe a stabilizing capacitor as good design practice.
I'm having a good success with a modified case where I drilled a small hole for a TSOP34838 on top of the front power contact.

TSOP38238 i what we ordered, we still have to try it out. It will be satellite.
The IR receiver will be satellite (similar to Wii IR bar).
Sounds like it could be sold separately? I'm just wondering if you would sell two options: 1 with the IR receiver / remote, and one without. I think there are some out there that don't need a remote because of CEC, android/ios, or other previously owned input device.
I do think this is quite the bargain. I remember there were some people making a case with the re-routed power and they were going to sell it for $30. The cheapest cases run about $10.

The IR receiver looks like it's going to cost about $1.
As for remotes, I'd like to find a really cheap but functional one we could bundle. I'm personally a fan of the legacy xbox remotes.
I love the new case and all its features, specially the IR and VESA mounting.. what I don't like about the case is that it isn't a real rectangle. It would look better if it was (if it was used as STB). But hey thats my opinion but I love it anyhow :)
Dale - I am eagerly awaiting the day that a complete setup will be available from you (i.e. Raspberry Pi in a RasPlex case with a RasPlex SD Card) - I would buy two.
Any update as to how things are progressing there?

I got my first 3D printed backplate from shapeways today, tomorrow we are going to print the mark 2 and try assembling it.
I 'm looking into possibilities for mass production, I would expect that the first batch of completed cases would be ready mid april.
As for including an actual Pi, that's further down the road for sure, since that requires much more investment / stock on hand, etc.
