RasPlex cases

Check out the plans for the http://rasplex.com/showcase.html RasPlex case.

What do you think about it? Answer the polls please!  : )

All feedback is good feedback!

Remember, we're trying to make this case cheap and awesome, and the proceeds for the case go to making RasPlex better.

We already have people donating, the idea behind the case is to be able to give them something in return : )

As long as it looks sexy as well ;)

I like it with rerouted power and IR receiver. You should reroute the HDMI as well to have all cables on the back... Why not make the case slightly larger and include a 240-120/5 V power supply? A small front led to indicate the on state could be good as well (GPIO connected). This way it will really look like an ATV :)

How do you reroute the power? internal micro usb connector? does this means the case is actually longer than a normal case?

What is the receiver used? Where is it placed in the case?

Be sure to choose a 3.3V one, include a limiting resistor and maybe a stabilizing capacitor as good design practice.

I'm having a good success with a modified case where I drilled a small hole for a TSOP34838 on top of the front power contact.

I will buy one of these as well, because next to the added value (Vesa mounts and IR!) I would gladly support the project this way.

Can / will you ship to Europe?

Answer should be - yes of course :-))

just wondering about the IR receiver. will it only be built in, or will there be an IR port available?

The reason i ask is, If I use the vesa mounts to put it on the back of my TV, how will i get a signal to it?

The IR receiver will be satellite (similar to Wii IR bar).

TSOP38238 i what we ordered, we still have to try it out. It will be satellite.

Yes we will

Sounds like it could be sold separately?  I'm just wondering if you would sell two options: 1 with the IR receiver / remote, and one without.  I think there are some out there that don't need a remote because of CEC, android/ios, or other previously owned input device.

I do think this is quite the bargain.  I remember there were some people making a case with the re-routed power and they were going to sell it for $30.  The cheapest cases run about $10.

The IR receiver looks like it's going to cost about $1.

As for remotes, I'd like to find a really cheap but functional one we could bundle. I'm personally a fan of the legacy xbox remotes.

Like this!    I will have one on every tv once this is released,, Hey I thought Pi day was  Beta time??

I love the new case and all its features, specially the IR and VESA mounting.. what I don't like about the case is that it isn't a real rectangle. It would look better if it was (if it was used as STB). But hey thats my opinion but I love it anyhow :)

That was the original plan.

Unfortunately, I had a big production update to do at work so things are behind where I want them today.

Whether or not the Pi is "beta" or "alpha" makes little difference as the builds are going to be the same quality either way.

For now, I'd rather hold off until we have a few more of these major issues fixed before calling it a beta.

I have looking for something like this.  Great features and looks good.

Best Pi Day Ever!  So stoked, I'm gonna have to buy a couple more Raspberry Pi's now!

Sounds like a great idea. I like the on/off switch idea too.

Dale - I am eagerly awaiting the day that a complete setup will be available from you (i.e. Raspberry Pi in a RasPlex case with a RasPlex SD Card) - I would buy two.

Any update as to how things are progressing there?

I got my first 3D printed backplate from shapeways today, tomorrow we are going to print the mark 2 and try assembling it.

I 'm looking into possibilities for mass production, I would expect that the first batch of completed cases would be ready mid april.

As for including an actual Pi, that's further down the road for sure, since that requires much more investment / stock on hand, etc.

I’d have one, did I see the possibility to by a complete rasplex device?
