Rasplex on 5" screen - video playback problems

I just bought a 5" screen from Adafruit.  I added the following lines to my config.txt as per here.  When in the regular UI everything looks fine but when I try to playback a video file everything goes wonky and the screen has nothing but noise.  Do I have to force the playback of video files in the 800x480 res of my screen?  Do I do this in Rasplex's settings or is this another change in the config.txt file.  I also have to adjust overscan - do I do that in config.txt or in Rasplex settings?

  1. 	hdmi_group=2
    	hdmi_mode=1
    	hdmi_mode=87
    	hdmi_cvt 800 480 60 6 0 0 0

You might have a problem, this article seems to think you need additional drivers installing, which you can't on Rasplex http://www.averagemanvsraspberrypi.com/2014/07/how-to-set-up-adafruit-pitft-for.html

Thanks for your reply Ned but I think it is a bit different.  The screen that I have has an HDMI input whereas the PiTFT one that you linked to above use GPIO and SPI pins.  The one that I have should be no different than any other HDMI screen, albeit one that has a 800x480 resolution.

what is the resolution plex is detecting in preferences?  I got plex to work on an 2.2 TFT GPIO display for fun but, never did more than an experiment and did not use rasplex.

Go into preferences and set the correct screen resolution.

Do the settings in Rasplex take precedence over the config.txt file when running Rasplex?

Yes, that's why there is an option to set resolution in the Application, give it a try, when you look at the current setting it probaly doesn't match you maximum display resolution, but I may be wrong as I don't have one of these displays, don't think many people do.

I am just playing around with this, I don't anticipate using it regulary.  However this could be a good option if you wanted to use Rasplex in the car.  Get one or two of these small screens with HDMI inputs, power them from USB (just like the Pi), mount them on the headrests and you have a good video system for your vehicle.
