So I have my media server at my place. i3 4130 @ 3.4ghz, 8Gb DDR3 1600mhz ram. My upload speed is around 150kb/s - 170kb/s
Now at my dads place, he has Pi2 running rasplex. (ethernet wired, on a <8mbit connection And i cant seem to get it to run smoothly. Its really hit or miss. So sometimes it plays fluently other times it gets 3/4 way through and starts stutterting.
any ideas on settings i should change? should i have playing on 1mb? should i have it as direct play, direct stream, transcoding?
any help or ideas greatly appreciated.
If your upload speed is only 150-170kb/s, setting it to 1mb/s for play rate isn’t going to help much (especially since this is only video, you still have audio overhead). Is 1mb/s the lowest you can go? Plex web has options for 96kb/s and 64kb/s, honestly this probably isn’t going to look that great though.
It comes down to the fact your upload speed just isn’t up to streaming videos, your dad may have 8mb/s, but streaming is limited by the slowest part of the chain (it this case your upload speed).
But i stream to my Work PC, original quality perfect.
i stream to my mums Samsung TV, original quality perfect.
Its just the Raspberry pi2 & Rasplex i cant get to work
an upload of 150-170kb/s is at most 1.36Mbps, your media would need to be very compressed 480p content or less to stream at Original Quality
