Remote Pi2 working too well?

Odd question.

My daughter lives in a student house. last year she had a NowTV box, and this year she has a Pi2 with Rasplex.

The problem is that sometimes Plex stutters and pauses during play. I do know that the wifi signal isn’t brilliant and I intend to put an ethernet cable in next time I’m up.

I’ve recently installed PlexPy on the server and I see the setup doesn’t transcode for her - she is always direct play. The only transcoding seems to be for my Ipod touch and a Roku box. I’m wondering if the server is banging a bigger data stream at her than the wifi can cope with her end. I’m loth to turn down remote quality as my son uses it without problems.

i’m wondering if I’m onto something with the stuttering, and turning the quality down her end would help? Is there a way to turn down the remote quality for one user only? The server is my son’s old gaming PC with 6 cores and a fast processor that is severely underused and could be doing a lot more of the workload.

In Rasplex, go to Preferences → Network → Quality → Remote video quality and select a lower setting than ‘Direct Play’.

Whatever settings you select will only apply to that RPi.
