Apologies if it’s not appropriate to send a direct message, but I have a simple quick question. For albums with multiple specific artists, such as this one, do I name the subfolder by each specific artists? Or is it best to put this one in the “Various Artists” subfolder?

Or an album like this one where there are two specific artists. Is the artist subfolder named “Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood” or does it go in the “Various Artists” subfolder?

You will have to decide on one the artists.
Plex doesn’t support collaboration releases.

Thank you for the response. But I’m not sure I understand the answer. “decide on one the artists” confuses me. Did you mean to say “decide on one OF the artists”? In other words, are you saying to pick one artist and put the music files in there? In this example it would be to choose the “Eric Clapton” subfolder.

Or are you saying it simply does not matter because PLEX does not support multiple artists?

So, if I may, one last question. Referencing the last section of the support article, when is it appropriate to use a “Various Artists” artist subfolder? What is the definition of “multiple”? More than three? More than six? I think you know what I’m getting at.

Or should a “Various Artists” subfolder only be used for things like soundtracks and compilations?

I gather at the end of the day it maybe doesn’t matter. Just make sure that the track meta data is accurate.

If you enable the “prefer local metadata” setting, then this is up to your personal preference.

But if the setting is disabled, you should follow whatever is set on musicbrainz.org for that album.
