RE Music Videos New Plex Exp

So I’ve understood since Q3/Q4 ‘24 that the redesign was coming and that movies/shows would be in plex and anything music related would be relegated to PlexAmp. Which I use.

Audiobooks are still present via my prologue app so no issues there.

PlexAmp I can switch libraries and see the correct music files that have music videos associated with them. Normally, you could do a quick change on the menu item and start watching in Plex side.

So question is, how are music videos to be handled now that we have all music in PlexAmp?

I can’t find a configuration in PlexAmp and it doesn’t seem to appear in any menu. And I can’t access it via plex now; unless of course I reconfigure the library music video files some how.

None of the documentation seems to be updated really with this rollout of the redesign, if it is I don’t where they are.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, I have this question too. Any new updates on the future of Music Videos? This is one area I was exploring in Plex before it went dark. If anyone has any info, please comment.

Is anyone of the plex-staff reading this request?

I also look for the possibility to play my hundreds, in painstaking small-scale work added, musicvideos.

I downgraded my PMS, so i am still see my musiclibary in PLEX and can watch the videos.

But i want to update the PMS because of possible security issues.

So whats the solution in plexamp to watch my mysicvideos?

Please be so kind and answer this request!

I believe it’s to refactor how you have them set up to play as local videos instead of having them in the same folder structure set up to watch them.

no way to watch them PlexAmp because it doesn’t have video functionality.

If I recall from another post, they[plex devs], have no immediate plans to address this feature in the new version of plex.

This isn’t so much a server topic, but a design decision for the new-experience clients.
So downgrading your server has nothing to do with this.

That being said – Plex have stated they’ll bring back music and photos to those new apps (though, no ETA).

Understand the need to split them, unfortunately I don’t believe it was handled in the best fashion since announcing it and rolling it out.

I could care less what bob down the road may have watched on his plex server. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don’t get me wrong I mostly used the apps for their respective functions before. PlexAmp for music, plex for movies/shows, prologue for audiobooks, etc. I had just barely started adding music video media. Might be a niche thing to a broad group of users like me but know lots other users has a use case for music videos in their library.

I have my music videos tagged as part of my music since it makes sense to have it show up there when looking through my music in a web browser. I also think it should be built into PlexAmp to choose the music video version of the song. But until that happens, I have placed all my music videos in a playlist. You can do this easily in a web browser logged into Plex by going to an artist that has music videos and scrolling down until you see the music videos. Select all the music videos and then add them all to a playlist. All video playlists, even music video playlists, will appear in the normal Plex mobile app. So until PlexAmp handles music videos, this is my workaround. Hope this helps!
