I recently set up 7.1.4 system. When I play multichannel files through appleTV the rear channel sound comes out of the sides. Nothing is coming from the rear channels. Other apps, like Apple Music and MAX sounds come out of correct speakers.
The video plays audio from each channel individually. It will help diagnose the problem. You can verify which channels are correctly/incorrectly mapped.
The left surround channel is incorrectly mapped to the left side channel and the right surround channel is incorrectly mapped to the right side channel. My question is why is it only Plex that has this incorrect mapping issue. My other Apple TV apps are mapped correctly.
FYI, here’s a 7.1.4 test video if you want to test all the channels. No idea if the ATV will play it. However, you might be able to load it on a USB stick and play it via your receiver/soundbar/etc.
I have used test tones and everything sounded correctly mapped. This issue is only an Apple TV PLEX app issue. Is there some setting in the PLEX media server that needs attention to correctly map these channels?
I wasn’t implying you had anything set incorrectly. The 5.1 video was to verify how things were mapped, so someone can re-create when testing. The 7.1.4 video was just an FYI since you mentioned you had such a setup.
