Your still going to need HDMI switch with that AGPtEK HD Game Capture or a Component Video + Digital Coaxial and Digital Optical Audio to HDMI Converter or Component RGB + R/L to HDMI Converter v1.3 support LPCM
Why, It looked like it had AV/Component in??
Or did I get that wrong??

Never mind I didn’t see the A/V input
If you want to capture component output and record it on your computer, the Blackmagic product I linked will do exactly that. Connect it via USB3 to your PC, connect the component cables from your cable box to the component inputs on the Intensity, start the software and hit record.
@kegobeer-plex
Thanks!
Nice looking box but I think way more than I need and $200 is a little pricey.
kegobeer-plex the box he refer to you do need any thing other then just one USB flash drive and hit the rec button on box it self and it start recording with no PC needed it stand and it hardware encoder device
Bit the bullet and ordered this one.

I let you all know how it works…
Cool looking forward to hearing all about it
This may be of no importance to the OP and I have never tried it personally but I have heard that cable providers may disable component out with on demand media for the duration of the paid for video.
Maybe…
But I do not care about on-demand or any other “Paid” media.
Just the programs from CNN, Discovery, Travel Channel… ETC.
On Spectrum ALL those type channels are DRMed.
Also as I mentioned, my Sling Box works fine using the Component Out.

Only Comcast did carp like this but end up downgrade the HD Resolution to SD Resolution

Well like I said, I never tried it which also translates to me having no real interest in doing so.
However, It “may” illustrate an advantage of HDMI over component in some specific cases when a mechanism is used to sidestep HDCP.
Personally I’ve used a couple of Hauppauge HD PVR units for years (ever since their release / preordered them) and have been very pleased with them overall. I also have a Hauppauge Colossus (v1). So component is ideal for my use case and I suspect many others.
I’m guessing the analog hole won’t stay open forever but for now it is.

That true as more and more STB are dropping the analog port even the composite video
Thanks all for your help.
I just got that little box I mentioned.

Works exactly as I needed it to work.
Thought I would report back.
It’s small and inexpensive piece of equipment that allowed me to capture DVR recordings from my Cable box since Plex DVR is extremely deficient in this arena.
I connected it up. First I tried the HDMI passthru just in case that would work. HDCP did not pass thru so the box got no signal to capture.
I got a component video splitter, since I also have a Sling Box connected and connected it to the box with the supplied Component to micro component connection.
I formatted a 128gig micro sd card in a USB adapter using NTFS. (extFat did not work and the doc says it supports only FAT32… go figure)
Plugged the USB adapter into the box, started DVR playback from cable box, and just pushed a button. A red lite came on indicating recording. It captured a 1 hour show recorded from a DRMed channel played back. No PC is required to capture the media. It creates it directly to the USB drive.
The video file/s showed up with mp4 containers and, in my case, 1080i mpeg2video at 18mbs.
The device seems to have a file size limit of around 2gig which equates to about 15 minutes.
The hour recording produced 4 files each with about 15 minutes of the recorded show.
This is no real problem since I will re-encode to h264 and remove commercials and put all 4 files together into one file at the same time.
In summary, this device did exactly what I wanted and was VERY reasonable in price.
That no surprised do believe all other clone are like that same way even the Hauppauge Rocket which doesn’t support extFAT 128gb you can only used up to 32gb with FAT32 but with NTFS you should good to go.
You should be able to used a self power caddy harddrive like a 2tb that not USB powered it will record to that.
Hmmm check with AGPtEK for newer firmware as the Hauppauge Rocket will rec well pass 2GB on NTFS in fact I have done up 6 hour on my Rocket with no problems.
Are you using MediaInfo ? it should be listed as AVC/H264 codec
The box does NO transcoding. just mux into an mp4 container.
Here my cable system is still using mpeg2video in .ts container.

Sorry but it doesn’t work that way with Analog nor HDMI in coming signal it is in Raw uncompressed format
In fact it even state right on there own web page that it Hardware MPEG4 encoder.
Go get MediaInfo it will tell the right info about the file
Ok Fine.
Just telling what I have observed.
Bottom line is it does exactly what I needed.
As long your happy with device that what counts later jjrjr1
